Sharks. Lots of Sharks. Like most things Galapagos, they have their own shark species too: The Galapagos Shark (really original name).

"Since records of shark accidents were first recorded in 1854 there have been a total of 6 shark incidents in the Galapagos Islands and only one involving a tourist. Two were tuna fishermen chumming the water in the 1950s, and one of them actually fell overboard into a school of fish! Three were surfers. None of the attacks were fatal."

Pulled a NJSM for some copy and paste work...Erock, you prompted a little day end procrastination here for me, found this and thought I'd share. Just found it ironic that of the 6 attacks since 1854, 3 of them were surfers...makes sense obviously, really just wanted to copy and paste on a thread here. Be careful Ericriley, safety first.

If there were more surfers in the area there would be a lot more shark incidents... They are rare, but as far as sharky places go Galapagos is right up there with the sharkiest.

Have fun... Looks like an amazing place.
