Our local guys hit central Florida when it is good, and I can tell you that your review based on unknown YouTube videos is very incorrect. Plenty of glassy barrels there, and we even get a bit of that when there is hurricane swell. The crazy high wind swell that came a couple weeks ago produced victory at sea conditions here, while Florida was semi clean and head high.

That's the videos I'm talking about on this site where there are 1 second closeouts. Does that ride even count? I'm talking quality and rideable waves. I dont' even consider some of those videos with nice wave height as rideable when it just closes out. The ride should be at least 5 seconds now, come on.

Not sure what videos you are talking about, but I think I will believe our surf club over random videos. Also, I know from my few trips to FL that it is way better than SC, and even we don't have only mush waves. Our **** isn't consistent, but any time it is clean and waist+ here, there are beautiful barrels.

There are many breaks in Fl. that you can ride a wave for well over a hundred yrds. Your taking videos from one area and thinking all of Fl. breaks like that...come on, get your blinders off.

I thought we were talking about wave quality originally, not consistency. But, if we were, I would have to agree with your list.

There are zero websites that post any historical data other than MSW, so if you have a secret, please share it. And as far as the legitimacy of that site, I agree the forecasting is off, but the historical buoy data is correct. It is what it is.

I am just saying, I don't live in either place, but I am getting a hint of local pride from your posts. Represent for sure, but don't confuse that with what really going on. When I lived in CA for 10 years, the ONLY east coast footage in ANY surfer mag was either OBX of Florida, and Florida was about 80% of it. That is just media talk, but next time they hold a WCT or professional surfing event in Jersey, let me know. Because Florida has them every single year.

Jersey always has professional events...Has a couple every year. Yeah those major world tour events in Florida back in the day were great. Watching Damien Hardman and Barton Lynch milking 1 foot, hot and glassy conditions........... Everytime..........And shoot we haven't even mentioned that a third of Florida is blocked by the Bahamas..........

The reason Florida had all the media coverage back in the day, much longer than ten years ago, was because Florida was idyllic. It was warm and sunny. Had nothing to do with the waves. Notice how you don't really hear much aboot that Sebastian Inlet spot like you used to twenty years ago. Because it's been exposed as a fraud and got national/global props because of Florida's climate, which sells images. It's just a friggin jetty rebound spot. Got fifty of them in New Jersey.

And what/where are these "localized windswells" that Florida gets?

And Jersey's sandbars are just as adept at holding size as well as Hatteras. Your Jersey stand-up closeout barrel theory holds just as much credence in the Outer Banks. You know they snap photos of Brett Barley in barrels right before the wave closes out, too. The Outer Banks aren't some 100 yard rides of magic. That places closes the F out, too.

The local windswell is the 90% onshore flow all the time. its good and bad, but produces ridable swell most of the time...

As far as the OBX stuff goes, sure it closes out, its a beach break, but over the years I have seen photo and video of sessions down there where guys are getting dozens of clean exits out of barrels in one session... Last year I saw a photo session of about 100 shots, I think it was a teenage kid with the last name Heverly or something, but no lie, the kid got 30 barrels in a matter of hours and every shot was follow by him getting spit out clean... Every dog has its day....

The sessions I am talking about are like the battle of the Banks 2 years ago with VB vs. OBX guys. It was solid 10 foot and a ton of guys were making it out. It was full on photo and video that was pretty epic. I think the VB guys actually won that year.

And I am not hating on jersey at all... I was just seeing how people felt about the topic. I have only surfed jersey a few times, and it was pretty fun... Surfed AC at my bachelor party two years ago and it was head high a pretty heavy. Had a ton of fun... No one was really out either... Well, technically I think I was surfing Brigantine, not AC, but regardless it was fun...

And to a point in the other post, I actually did youtube and google hurricane surf and big swells in jersey, and there just isnt as much media or material on it. You type in Florida hurricane surf and you get about 10 pages of photo and video from pretty much every year. The irenes, the sandys, the earls... There are thousand of photos online. I did the same thing for jersey and the most impressive thing I found was about a 10 foot day that looked like it was the Sandy Cleanup. A few guys got some nice barrels, but most of the video was closeouts and broken boards... Still fun to watch

The more jersey dudes on here the better. Whens its head+ they can't go to the points, they're takin a beating in 2 ft of water. Dudes that surf only beachies are better surfers imo

I get a creepy feeling every time I see a pic of a huge Sandy wave... like the feeling you were to get if you were to see a picture of a teenager taken the day before he was killed in a horrible car accident or something.

i live in nj.we have guys that make barrels.not like hatteras, though, where tons of guys make tons of barrels all sizes a lot,and i've seen it in my couple a trips down a year.the mostly closeout barrels only a handful makeable jersey is accurate from what i see up here in bay head, jenks, manasquan, pier.they make 'em,but only a select group, and they're usually short.i see everyone barrelled out of their minds in hatteras, like little kids, even.

Perfect desription. Similar to 9/11 in the sense of equating all recent events to either Pre-Sandy or Post-Sandy.

That's Juno Pier dude, in S. Florida, and I agree that there are a lot of close outs on those videos, but that is not even close to what the rest of the state gets. Everybody knows that the best surf in Florida happens in Central - North Florida, sorry guys down South, you guys get it good on from time to time, but the regular every day stuff is up around Central / North FL.
