working 60 hours a week...really....that is your excuse not to rinse your suit? Take care of the suit and it will take care of you! unless you do not mind spending the neccessary loot to purchase a new one earlier then would need be. I work over 50 hours a week and have two kids. That beig said...I NEVER PUT MY SUIT AWAY WITHOUT RINSING WITH THE HOSE!
I've been rinsing my gear and hanging it in the shower each and every time I ride, which is 1-3x daily depending on the action out there. I've gone so far as to leave the light on til the suit is fairly dry such that bacteria won't have darkness to grow. Then I thought about the electricity bill. Have been rinsing with cool or lukewarm water each day and then once per week soaking it all in the tub with baby shampoo. Got some of that Piss Off stuff from Rip Curl coming in the mail. I hear good things about it. I love my XCEL gear and just invested in a full spring/summer getup so I'm sure to make it last as long as it can.
Yes- this stuff does the trick! I have the oneil shampoo and conditioner and wash my suits with it after each season before storing it in my closet- seems to help the life span of my suit... but then again one of my buddies keeps his wet- rolled up in a ball in the corner of his shed and does not seem to have any problems... lol I got some water and mixed the soap in a bottle and spray it on to get the stink out... If i was surfing 1 to 3 times a day, i would not be rinsing or hanging my suit! It would be in the back of my truck lol
All good stuff. Between me and my daughters, I try to rinse all of our wetsuits, booties, gloves, etc, and then hang in the shower. Regardless, the whole bathroom can get a pretty nice stench going, particularly from the booties. Will try some of the solutions mentioned here.
Doesn't anyone realize this is a 5 year old thread bumped by a spammer? Not hard to see why the trolls love this site.
after rinsing,i turn my booties and gloves inside out and dry the inside first. its a pain in the but and its not good for the equipment but it takes care of the stink. i put them in the sun too. when they go bad i'll just buy a new pair. i think i got the idea here from an older thread.
When it gets funky use Oneil wetsuit cleaner. Awesome stuff. Prevents dry rot too...great smell, makes suit feel soft and new. If you don't wash your suit at least with freshwater the saltwater will eat away at the seams and accelerate dry rot. Not good for a $300+ investment.
That photostream is awesome, gonna look through all 16 pages, good procrastination material...one of 'em was tagged #hollisterdontsurf...might be NJSM/B.A. in that pic, it's on the first page check it out.
Wetsuits is a topic that confounds and baffles a majority of y'all on here, huh? I never knew wetsuits were such complicated entities until I showed up on this here website. Very confusing pieces of rubber they are, huh? Ahhh the mysteries continue...........
Good eye. Thanks for pointing it out. I sure didn't catch it. Still, there was some good discussion generated on the topic. And the spammer, who just joined the Forum, got banned.
