Its weird, i'm now seeing sharks a lot more than I was in the past years. Also they're not too big only about 3-4 ft maybe sometimes 5 but for the most part small. Has the shark population been growing rapidly? Have you heard any reports?
My buddy Brian saw a bull at IOP yesterday morning. He was on an SUP and got a nice view of it swimming below. I know they are out there, but seeing them is rare.
One of the 1st things I noticed when I started going out with the SUP was how much wildlife really is right there in the shallow surf. You get a very good view / perspective from up there that you don't get laying down. What I like to do normally when I get to the beach at DP and nobody is in the water yet or just a few around is i'll paddle out on the SUP and scan the area for anything, then catch a few, and then when i've had a good look at it i'll go grab my shortboard and have fun for the rest of the day.
I like to charter a Cessna and have a good look up and down the coastline before I go out. Next I'll tow a side scanning and top down sonar from a jonboat, just in case I missed the sharks in murky water. Finally, I'll spray my board down with shark repellant and paddle out.
No worries. Sharks are our friends. See slide show. http://photos.msn.com/slideshow/foxsports/swimming-with-sharks/230mzx0c#39
I was out in Monmouth county on Monday and there were two dolphins breaching Like 20 yards from me. It scared the Shiite out of me. Wait a minute, I hope they were dolphins.
One of my friends was surfing in Atlantic City and there was a shark that about ten guys all saw and everybody got out of the water. He said it was pretty big
i caught some 3 foot black tips off shore the other day and there was a mass of bait fish in the water here it sketched me out when i went for a paddle and the birds were diving everywhere.
after surfing frisco in late august I feel like I should order a chain meal wetsuit. The shark population is TOO DAMN HIGH
Chain Meal Suit? Is that a suit made of raw meat hooked together with snap rings? I know you meant chain metal...
It's actually chain mail : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_(armour) Though I kinda like the chain meal thing better in this case. Perhaps somebody can start a new wetsuit line reinforced with chain mail. Be kinda heavy though. Maybe kevlar would work. I've been seeing more sushi eaters down here in way South Florida as well. Little 2-3 footer in 2 feet of water last weekend and a 4-5 footer a bit further out the week before. Plenty of spinners a month or two back. Didn't used to see them much before but I've been in the water a lot more lately. I'll be in Buxton in early July. Hope I don't become a chain meal myself...
Dang it! I knew that from my times spent at L.A.R.P.ers conventions! Just saw the meal and thought metal. Lol Can't wait to get out today! I'll surf with Mary Lee if i have to!
Large fin seen in Loch Arbor/Asbury just this morning. By all accounts it wasn't a dolphin. Looking for bennies no doubt...
Wow, according to this thread Jersey is pretty sharky. Or wait, could be a scare tactic to clear the lineups...... Listen in Spring them white sharks come into certain inlets and into the bays in Jersey. They give some birth there. Like, the inlet south of LBI, they love that place. And the water stayed mo colder this spring than usual so they out there right now, and will be leaving for Cape Cod in a few weeks. If you don't believe me ax that dude from The Marine Mammal Stranding place. He'll tell you the same thing I did. And he's knows everything about what is floating or submerged off the Jersey coast. Right now there is some white shark chick giving birthin to some little white shark dude in an inlet/bay area right by YOU.
