Stoked to hit the pond for my fourth consecutive dawn patrol this week. It's been pretty damn good all things considered for this time of year. Will give a recap on the sessions earlier this week as I've really been studying the tides effects on the break at different points of time and wind conditions. 4mph offshores with just under 2ft swell at 10 seconds (medium period but long for aroubd here) to start this morning and we are right at mid-tide as it's coming in which is ideal for this spot. Pretty stoked to have something to ride and it's beautiful weather. Anyone else hitting DP duty today or lately? Party on brahs!!
Got some nice, glassy stomach to chest peelers in CB yesterday morning. Thought I was only out for an hour because it was overcast and I couldn't tell the sun's position. Turns out I was out for 3!
Dawn Patrols have been good, but my Favorite summer thing is Yawn Patrol. Sunday late afternoon till dark (sometimes Saturday), after all the pens and lighters have been packed up and everyone is sun and surfed out, full of food and Tired... The wind dies down and good spots get Great. Relatively uncrowded leftovers. Yawn Patrol.
Dawn Patrol is the only way to go in the summer. Kooks & Kiddies still asleep, sun just coming up, no wind, no guards, glassy - oh yeah - I hit it everytime I can. Sunset is also cool.
This week we didn't get amazing surf but for this time of year im very happy. I DP almost every day theres waves. get up at about 4am, in the water by 445-5 am. Sat I got 3 hours in, Sun got 2 hours, Tues surfed for 3 hours, Weds got 2 hours and I just got back from another 3 hour session. All those days I was the first or one of the first guys out, surfed alone or with just a couple other guys for the first hour or so for all those days. Very happy. especially considering one or two of those days the forecast wasn't too good, but if theres the slightest chance of waves im there, so acouple of those days I expected to check it out and just head home but it was better than forecasted. knowing your spot goes a long way. not complaining because it tends to keep the crowds away but this morning the SI forecast was all red, ended up being waist high and glassy, got a butt load of great waves surfing a peak all to myself except for these 2 girls who paddled out but I don't think they knew what they were doing, I didn't see them catch one wave so it didn't bother me. eye candy for between sets ya know
This morning wasn't very good at all. But I was on the water again and it was beautiful. Last two mornings prior were as stokey as we can ask for these days and way better than forecasted. This morning's wind was perfection and so was tide but zero swell of power. Wish I could have some of the large boats swing by the shore for some wake. Tough to deal with since I'm in that just about to hit a turning point phase in my progress. This weekend's forecast looks terrible everywhere and I'll trade perfect beach days for waves. Jones ing hard for a real sesh with some semi-steep faces at least so I can feel kinda funny on the takeoff, like when you used to climb the rope in gym class. From what I hear though, they have some sick wave pools in Arizona and if you win a contest they'll fly you to Hawaii. Any truth to this?
I don't know........ This "Dawn Patrol" thing isn't as unheard of as y'all make it out to be. Especially in early summer. And summer is really the only good time for "Dawn Patrol" ....ahh catchy cliche phrases. Morning sickness is a real issue, and one that always happens if I wake before the sun anytime other than summer. The best time, and my opinion is fact, is winter.........late afternoon.....surf until dark. Getting out of the water in the peaceful, winter, blackness, on a cold December night - winds dead, that stillness in the air - is the best. Remember my opinion is fact and what is naturally right. Put that heat on your feet. After every winter session(in cold climates) ......put that heat on your feet. Put that heat on your feet / Put that heat on your feet (EVERYBODY) PUT THAT HEAT ON YOUR FEET / PUT THAT HEAT ON YOUR FEET Do you know what's sad aboot today's pop culture. The above line could be transformed in to a Romeo French Montana Lil Wayne Doggy TI Cheif Keef Young Jeezy Julez Santana classic. And that is just plain sad.
Wait until tomorrow's (Saturday) evening SUPERMOON high tide! +6' at around 7pm! CB North End is gonna flood! I'll be out gigging later that evening in our version of the Midnight Sun... Hopefully it won't be too overcast.
I once was "dawn patrolled" in high school. It was the morning after my first party and all the cool kids woke up early and did unspeakable things to those still asleep. I still haven't quite gotten the smell out of my nostrils.
What the eff am I supposed to do now? This would've been my 6th consecutive DP sesh but yesterday was flatter than flat and today looks worse. Dang brah, guess I'll get some shut eye and prepare for a ridiculously good beach day. So many fine women. And they all are in heat.
