9'2\" Robert August \"WIR\" vs. Walden's Magic. Anyone ever ridden these boards? What is your opinion of their performance?

Ridden both... very different boards. The WIR is more of a classic, glidey longboard, and the Magic is a totally modernized, performance design.

Totally agree- if your looking for more performance -waldens magic. Although the WIR is a sweet board- with some performance still there..

if you never had a long board before a WIR is a good board to start with. does a little bit of everything.

but any good local shaper can make you one just like it.

+1 Ricky Carroll longboard over the popouts. I've ridden both the WIR and the Walden and agree with the cruiser/glidey feel of the WIR vs. the high performance feel of the Magic. RC will make you something better than either one.

Nothing like riding a hand-made piece of beauty

Another +1 on Ricky Carroll. I just picked up a 9'2" RC JQ Noserider ("Jawbreaker Acid Wash" tint) about a month ago. I was actually planning on ordering a Levitator to couple with my Elevator, but the JQ seemed like the better option; better on the wallet too. It's the best noserider I have ever riden. Well done, RC. I owe you a beer for that one.

I've never riden the WIR, but I am a fan of the Magic Model. One of my first longboards was a 9'0" Magic Model. I rode it for a few years, until I buckled it on October 16th, 2011. It has since been replaced with a very similiar Magic Model. The Magic is definitely a great all-around board that will elevate your longboarding game. Its very receptive to different fin set ups, great hold down the line and it is very easy to generate speed. The bigger the wave, the better the ride for sure.

Thanks for the Info everyone. Several things to consider. Dlrouen, did you have the RC shipped directly to you? Any delivery issues?

If you are worried about shipping, you could call some local shops and see if they work with Ricky. I know Mckevlins here in CHS always carries RC boards.

If you nab a Walden, get one Steve's actually shaped.

I agree. I have a 10'0 Magic, and its one of the few he shaped himself, not a popout. Its definitely my favorite board.

I have a dealer in my area, so I picked mine up at the shop. RC himself hand delivers his boards, so you really don't need to worry about delivery issues. I would find a local dealer if you're interested in ordering one.

I'm not sure what you consider the "SOBX," but there are some talented shapers in our neck of the woods. Greg Eavey and Will Allison are two dudes you definitely need to look up if you're in the market for a custom log. There's actually a really nice Allison on CL Wilmington. Jimmy Kieth is also very talented and worth checking out.

I saw a Greg Eavey Longboard in Sweetwater Surf Shop a couple of weeks ago when I was in WB. Dave Dixon is a local shaper near me (I most frequently surf EI or TI). Anyone surf a surf culture longboard? Does Jimmy Keith have any boards in local shops (WB or CB)?

If you're in the market for a longboard I would go to CB Surf Shop in Carolina Beach. They have a bunch of Ricky Carroll's and Bings in stock plus I think some Takayamas and other shapers. If you go looking for a log you won't leave empty handed.

keep in mind the materials too. EPS foam is light and usually found on ricky carrols HPLBs, but can snap easier. Poly boards can take a beating.
