Hey fellas check out my buddies winter surfing documentary he made, its 12 min long but has a lot of good footage and really captures what its like to be around the beach in the winter and the pains us winter warriors have to go through on the east coast to get the good waves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRCgfvqu7zk Let me know what you think
Good work boys, I enjoyed it. Quality workmanship, and anyone who's ever done anything with film knows the time and vision that project took. Hope you guys enjoyed putting it all together for your own expression, as the critic knows not the canvas the artist puts his brush to. You got many clips of pier shotting in the film and that will appease many on here. The absence of 23-footers forgiven as a result. Because we know those occur in NJ on the reg. Side note, I was out there 3-5 days/wk during the winter this year and that was my entry. Still, looking back at those conditions I can't even think of what it feels like since the air is 92 and water close to 70. I know it was cold as hell any day I was out before mid-April (and after), but I feel we just accept what's in the way of us at the time and just get it done. The northeast winter reward is certainly worth it. Not judging in any way those who don't brave the arctic temps, but they may never know what they're missing and it's not just the better winter wave.
They did a real nice job. Captures the spirit and surreality of winter surfing perfectly. This was some great entertainment to sit down to with my morning coffee, so thanks for posting!
A really nice, professional job, guys. I may play it again as encouragement when the cold weather returns. To my surprise, I surfed through this past winter - a first time experience. I started surfing last Sept, so I haven't been at it long. A used 4/3 suit, some booties, and later a hood and gloves from Santa got me through the winter. Actually, it wasn't as bad as I thought. I'm trunking it now, and sometimes it's hard to recall the coldness, the headaches, ringing of the ears, and "heaviness" of the water after a good dunking. For me, just going out seemed to be an accomplishment in itself. Most people don't understand why anyone would be out in the water during the winter. They think you're nuts. Especially if you're 57 and "should know better". I'll admit that VB winter conditions (water temp got down to 42) are not as cold or severe as those up north. My hat's off to you Yankees.
thanks guys i appreciate the feedback, also we plan on shooting a part 2, beginning the first hurricane swell through the winter months again.
Wow, that scared the hell out of me........... Hey yo, if you fellas want to feel really "different" and more of a societal reject, surfing in the winter, go somewhere other than Ocean City. That place is the most crowded place in South Jersey. I was forced to go there for a month last winter, and Good Lord.............. And make sure you guys drink the next time you do interviews on camera. We have a reputation to uphold here in New Jersey. Ya know what it is that I be sayin' ? And try and look meaner, too. Scowl alot next time. Look angry. I didn't see any tear drop tats either ?? Got to get ink on your face, as it shows you ain't messing around. Thanks for sharing this video, though it will probably have all the VA Beach guys coming up here. Ha. They'll all be, "OMG, look(Mira, Mira), a hollow wave........pack the cars lets go !!"
Nice video. When I see a video like this it really makes me hate the summer. When I was younger I loved it ,but I rather be in school and surfing cold ass water ( which isn't bad thanks to wetsuit technology) than working all summer in the heat and not surfing. God summer sucks
Hey mo-ron, I wasn't "ripping" on a kid's project. Awwww, you poor little Jersey kids. What are youse guys five-years-old. Man, you better toughen up or you won't last on the streets of Jersey very long. I'd advise you stay out of Pleasantville and Atlantic City, you might get your feelings hurt. I was joking around in that post. You keep mentioning in your video how special and different winter surfers are. So, I told you to go somewhere less crowded so you'd feel even more on the fringes because OC has twenty dudes at every jetty these days. Do you get what I was saying, dude? And the drinking and the tats......? Really, are these younger generations that dim? Hey are you sure you guys aren't from Rhode Island? Hey now.........
sorry man didn't catch on to your wording but the video is just showing how much different it is during the winter, pleasantville and AC are both shi**y places so you wouldnt catch me there anyway but i didnt even comment on the tats and drinking part because it was completely unnecessary
It's all good in the hood Brazos. PB&J is an abstract cat and commonly misunderstood. Few on here can appreciate art and individuality like him and your work is definitely appreciated by him. If not, he would be commenting on another post instead. Keep it up, brah! You know, a random shot of a stacked shorty in a two-piece wearing boots wit da fur as the snow falls on her gleaming snack trays never hurt the popularity of a winter surf vid... Just in case you want ideas for Vol. 2.
