I'll see about picking up a water kit sometime soon when I actually take some vacation from work and do a test around Little Island and the S-turns. I'll let people know what I find and also will report to surfrider obviously.

About the S-turns... I haven't been to Sandbridge once since February and it used to be my daily spot for surfing. From what I heard is the S-Turns are gone... meaning the beach was pushed out to even out what used to be the S-turns. The same replenishment also happened at Little Island so I would assume the breaks are gone. Obviously I have not been out there; but as mentioned above I will make a jaunt out there sometime soon to check it out. Dodging the surfsession kids and the tourist population at Croatan is okay for me; but my kids can't really learn much with trying to dodge (and not be in the way) of others.

    I'll let you guys know.

Also I picked up another surf book recently from Amazon about surfing injuries and such called "Surf Survival". I'm currently thumbing through it but it relates a lot of the surf sicknesses that we may pick up from dirty water to winter surfing. If I see anything that matches up I'll also let you know.

The market and s turns are dead. Was there weekend before last and although a little swell was present it was breaking right on the beach. As soon as I got up it was time to get off so I didn't drag my fin on the bottom. Got me to thinking an alaia might be a decent board choice.

Hmmm. That's a bummer. My recourse is sunrise SUP reconnaissance (before hot sand onshores commence) patrolling the coastline for anything remotely rideable. At least I'll get some core & balance work.

    Thanks for the heads up.

And here ya go......little bitty 'item' in the Pilot this morning notes that VB authorities have restricted swimming in the north end areas (54th - 79th) where the beach replenishment is taking place due to "high bacteria counts in the water."

People are def getting sick from being in that water.

Thanks, and good eye catching that. I would've missed it otherwise it.

The VB City Health Dept issued the advisory yesterday and lifted it today.
How often do they test, and how long had folks been swimming under those conditions?
It was never made clear what caused the elevated bacteria levels or what caused them to suddenly lessen to safe levels. I should be asking the city these questions. Perhaps I will tomorrow.
    To be continued...
