yeah I hear what you're saying. I just can't invision this board being able to take up enough of the wave energy to move in an enjoyable fashion. I'm not sure but didn't charles say its 24lbs or so?
anyhows, that being said, I'm interested in following his experience with the board.

I know dude, it was the shot hear round the world. I'll tell my grandkids about the Fitzpedo and how it regulated the lineup and taught a young grom the lessons of dropping in people.

in the hopes that they won't "drop-in" on people of fitz' disposition Im sure is the reason. :)

I agree about the fat rails and thicker overall physique but I had in mind my slow head high mellow local beach brake type surf not hard barreling ledge type surf. I will not be entering compitions with it that's for sure. I agree it won't slash as hard as a foam thruster but I'm willing to bet it could be faster in making sections.

I've been catching mad east coast waves lately with my 5'8 Fitz Mush Diver

And it's not overly flexible the concave lamination has stiffened it up quite a bit.

In all seriousness this board Chuck has built is pretty neat looking, wonder if it will perform well and hold up over time.

I agree. it really is a work of art in my opinion. Again Charles, keep us posted.

Thanks guys. In all honesty I'm a terrible short boarder, I've been on long boards my entire life. The gang buster is my attempt to get nice at board building and to give myself a shorter board. I have some local buddies lined up to test it and give me critical feedback. Despite its weight it's still very very buoyant, I got it in my pool and all 200 lbs of myself couldn't hold it under , it would pop me right out. I will certainly keep you all posted on its performance and get some video footage too. I'm confident it will go nicely tho.

We've all seen guys on the Solid pancake thin alias with literally no volume and those things seem to take up plenty of wave energy. The gang buster like I said has a ton of buoyancy so it's weight wont make it sink. The weight should create allot of momentum and thus capture the wave energy quite well. This all my theory tho and I hope to prove it with a detailed ride report.

I think the design of your board is good, basically the stub/minisimmons shape that's in style right now. I know you put in a ton of work on that fin but I really don't understand the idea behind it. Basically, you foiled the outside edge all the way around creating 180 degrees of lift. I'd assume that at least 90 degrees of the "lift" created would actually be pulling you into the water essentially making you heavier and slower.

Like I said, I don't understand the idea and I've made assumptions. Can you elaborate on the idea and how/why it will work?

Well considering the lift created at the nose of the surfboard which will keep the annular wing at an angle that will create upward lift at the tail not downward lift the tunnel should actually push the tail out of the water better like a hydrofoil. My board has a flattish tail to rocker so the nose lift will be able to direct the tunnel angle nicely. Also the tunnel is known to have a very nice loose feel but still have sufficient hold for fast angles of attack. Rail to rail roll resistance is minimal. I've never used one so I had to try it out. I guess the only way to know for sure is to make one and try it out.

Oh yeah, you've got yourself a nice planing hull there for sure and it will definitely create a lot of lift throughout the nose and body.

The tunnel fin is foiled on the outside and flat on the inside right?

IMO, As soon as the tunnel starts nearing the bottom section, the "lift" it creates will be pulling the board down. Maybe you need that to eliminate the skipping stone effect that happens with boards with wide tails... I would have bought that explanation. I think the best option if you're going to use a tunnel would be to foil inside and out. That way you'd be able to take advantage of bernoulli at least a little bit and the "sinking lift" would be balanced.

I pulled a Fitzpedo last week. Guy dropped in so I went for it... Broke every bone in his body. I feel really bad now, but it was his fault. He was only 9 but he should know better.

SIC!!! I like hearing about lesson teaching fitzpedos!
    but... I have to say...
Video or it didnt happen. I mean after all, I did provide video of my "me"pedo.

sounds like you screwed up the fitzpedo... a perfect fitzpedo leaves no room for legal recourse.

Well this tunnel in the board now is foiled outside only, I had made another that was foiled both sides but ended up scrapping it because I messed it up. I figured outside only would work well seeing how an airplane wing which is flat on bottom is able to fly upside down so I went with keeping the inside flat to save some man hours. Considering that airplanes with flat bottom wings can fly upside down tells me that upward lift is still achievable with the foil configuration on my tunnel fin. I'll agree that it may not be as efficient as an annular wing foiled both sides but I'm not flying at 50'000 feet I'm only trying to stay in a wave.
I like your idea about the tunnel holding the board into the water better tho that could be an interesting effect. Like I said I just had to try it out and hey if it sucks I can always cut it off and put a 2+1 set up on or something ... I left allot of tail blocking for this exact reason.

Well boys I tried to test today but the surf was so terrible I decided to not curse myself by trudging through the hoards of miserable tourists at my local spot. This weekend in Maine looks very promising for a test run.
