FCS MR-TFX fins appear to be the biggest side fins available from either company. They're significantly bigger than Futures biggest side fins: the MTF (although I think they're now named "AMT"...same fin). T1 is smaller than those, but a good compromise...especially since they're easier to find and cheaper (used).
anyone ever try these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ventral-HC5...265?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd36f01b1 locally i have heard good things. good things as in cheap and big improvement over basic plastic fins..
i just bought the john johns and threw them on my 5"8 and absolutely loved them. good drive and nice easy release off the lip.
idk, I personally would not buy those just based on the fact I couldn't find any information on the company. All honeycomb fins are hand made/hand sanded, even from the big brands, and can vary in quality control, so I'd expect to get some factory 2nd looking crap from a vague brand (probably 100% chinese).
Found a good deal recently on the Parko quads online for $75. Cant remember the site, but you can google them and find it. Havent surfed them yet, so cant comment.
they have a website, looks semi legit. getting my first quad shaped right now, and just would like not to spend like $100 on a set of quads if possible. i saw the fins in person this weekend, and to the naked eye the looked solid. the dude who surfed them is a good surfer and he had praise for them. maybe worth a shot..maybe not.
o.k., I couldn't find anything on ventral, but I see they're made by dorsal...still wouldn't buy them online based on my exp with even big name rtm/hexcore. I'd have to inspect the actual set I was buying at a brick & mortar shop.
smart call; the only fins i'll buy sight unseen are from SOAR australia & True Ames. both have killer customer service & quality control that is top-notch (above & beyond the "big 2").
i am a big true ames fan but can't find quad fins i like. suggestions? i need quads and would like to not spend $100.
have you tried the t. patterson quad rears paired w/ your favorite fronts? my only real gripe w/ TA fins is that they don't really do bigger sized quad rears. the t. patterson rears, at 3.95", are 80/20 foiled & the biggest they make, height-wise, for hpsb quads. i wish they'd make something over 4.0" in height. from futures, i really like the MB-2 set & for FCS i like the K2.1 quad rears.
i hear good things about the timmy pattersons, and also the tyler warrens, they are on my list of possible fins. i should mention its for a simmons type quad, nose and tail pulled in for performance. so its not a true hpsb. i'm getting some basic fins with it, so not like i am gonna have a board without fins. but still i'd like to upgrade.
oh, gotcha...didn't realize it was a mini-sim type board. the tyler warrens might be the way to go, then. those or the controller quads or the ...lost seaworthy quads (controllers, but a touch less area & a bit more "hp")
I've got the seaworthys, too. Area difference between the SW and controllers is negligible, but there's definitely more cant in the seaworthy. Rear fins are also slightly more raked than the controllers (also negligible). so, yeah, they're a little more performance and quite a bit lighter with the hex core. however, considering the tight/off rail placement of the rear boxes on the Pier Pony tail, neither of these sets may be ideal for it
so i got a set of the clay marzo's and i think i like these a little better. belive it or not, i bought a brand new SUPER Madness 2 and got them for free. love the fins, not so much the board.
i absolutely love the board. it takes a few waves to really get used to the board. my biggest problem at first was that it has very little rocker so my few like 3 waves i would nose dive. after the first few waves you really get the feel of the board. it awesome and i use it really only on mushy weak days. i did use it on about a little over head high day and it held its own but there are better boards for the condition. but for mushy weak waves it is deff. my go to board. i love it. and would recommend it to anyone looking for a small wave board... very responsive and snappy board. id give it a 5 out of 5
My friends. Let this thread die. If you rip you rip if not then you cruise. Fins won't change that stop lying to yourself. This thread is emembarassing. Fins are just fins. Kooks. Wisen up. Sorry for the foul language. Peace.
