Ditto, PJB. A chunk of your heart goes when they leave.

I noticed you quoted Doll Parts by Whole in another thread PJB. You got a crush on her? I don't know Old Courtney personally, but I have met her agent once back in '96. I'm sure she has had many more since.

DOGS: I got a Black Russell Terrier (1/2 Jack 1/2 Lab) named Lu Lu. She Skateboards. We are trying to get her to surf.

I think they both helped us evolve into what we are. Dogs helped us on the hunt and protected us, and kitties defended our stored grains from rodents. Much respect.

I'm an animal lover without a yard so it's just me and the catfor now. Respectively, "dog is man's best friend, cat is man's reclusive roommate who ****s in a box".

I even loosely adopted a raccoon, Rhonda, for a while in college. She would ravage our trash cans at night so I just started leaving her a food bowl with scraps in it on the back porch. Eventually she warmed up to the idea and every afternoon we hung out and had a beer together. Yes, the raccoon would drink beer out of a bowl.

Golly jeepers, Yank and Seldom, thanks for the sympathies......

But I'm just giving Pumpmaster the business. While I miss the fur kid, I have to be thankful that I got the four paws to keep trucking until 15.5 years old. He was large dog, so that ain't too shabby. And he did pretty well in his twilight years, too. He didn't give a F, he'd eat all y'alls food.

Actually, he burst into my room of bed last week at 8:00 am. I don't know if Seldom is a member of The Atlantic Paranormal Society, but that was the morning walk time. My door was closed and it moderately flung open. No air condition on. No windows were open. And no one was being trickery.

So....................I don't know. Holly Sheet, I'm so scared right now. Ghosts are scary and creepy and all Blair Witch and stuff. Yes, I meant to say, "Holly."

Anytime man. But your outlook is great, and the way people should look at it. We give them good lives, cherish the time we have with them, and be thankful for it. In your case, over 15 years with a large breed is awesome, definitely something to be thankful for. A guy in a bar once told me 'never get a dog, you're getting a tragedy'. Eff that, that mindset is for the selfish and the weak. Of course we'll miss them when they're gone. But they don't exist solely for our comfort and emotional nourishment. They face the end with so much more dignity than our species.

Now I am not a member of the ATPS, but I would say 'take what you can gather from coincidence'. It probably was your pal saying hi. And just think, he'll keep the Blair Witch type spooks away from you, so nothing to get too creeped out about.

Many surfers are dogs... in more ways than one.

Have you ever heard of a guy name Andre Bauer? He was the SC Lt. Govenor and made a comment like this one and just about got ran out of town. It sucks because what he said was true. People just get all puffy when you compare kids getting free lunches to stray dogs.

At least dogs will provide some sort of work in return.

That was Timothy Treadwell. If you wanna look at the work of a real Grizzly biologist, look up Douglas Peacock.

    Definitely. To add to Peacock,

I would say the Craighead brothers Frank and John. Talk about cojones....

"Frank Craighead, who with his identical twin, John, performed a 12-year study of grizzly bears in and around Yellowstone National Park that was credited with helping save the species from extinction in the lower 48 states."

"The brothers were the first to use radio collars to track large mammals, a technique that opened new windows into grizzlies' habits. For the first time, their dens could be found, and the Craigheads burrowed right in with them.

''They were hoping they weren't awake,'' Mr. Craighead's wife, Shirley, said."

Amazing, gonna read the article in full in the morning. Balls of steel to do that stuff. I watched that Treadwell movie in full, and while his heart seemed to be in the right place(cared about the habitat he was in, bears, etc.), dude was definitely not right in the head. I think he was hiding from some demons. I hate to say it, but they kept alluding to how there was audio recording of when he was eaten, and implied that they were going to play it, and that's why I finished the movie.

I had to put my surf buddy to sleep 2 weeks ago he was a 13 year old golden retriever and he was really this mans best friend. Im currently in the process of checking out the shelters around me for my new buddy. i actually got a little choked up the last time i hit the water because it was my first time in a long time without him there.

While agree that dogs are awesome, I don't think everyone should have one. Some people can barely take care of themselves. I have a few people in my neighborhood that won't pick up after their dog. It drive's me figgen nuts to walk past **** every day... Lazy people should NOT have dogs. And a lot of peeps are lazy
