That was a very fair review, I don't see what Roy's problem is. Only thing I can think of is that it really isn't Roy posting on here, it's a troll job, which I've thought from the very beginning, I just like the back and forth banter, it's entertaining at least

 

Yeah don't you love how he goes off on Randy on youtube calling him names and dropin F bombs but tries to play it cool on here so he does not get booted like on Sways!

 

RR was riding in the middle during a few of those runs. You can clearly tell that. Looks like it did work better when he was in the middle. So I am not sure how the kiwi is bad mouthing him. I think it was a kind review that brings up pros and cons.

 

I love watching people roll up with boards sporting their favorite beer brands that came straight off the wall of some bar. Throw in a 15+ year old neon wetsuit and you have a recipe for a good time.

 

Yeah I saw his comments and they way out of line. If that's really him of course.

 

People that say they just scored head high waves that nobody else knew about, but the buoy is 2' at 5sec making it impossible... Liar

It's not my fault that my spot was going off on the reg 8-10' during last spring's swell streak
One could argue that my stoke and optimism (similar to PB&J's) was a bellows for the sick spring. Should I inflate my scores the next few days and see what happens for us all?

If they can get some bottom turns on those porous, finless sticks then I'm gonna applaud the feat!!! As for the neon wettys, a lineup full of those would be the surf version of Hot Tub Time Machine. That movie just makes you feel good.

Cataracts are real, sparky. Esp for surfers. But, nah, wait, you gonna live forever! which is why you don't wear block & you are out there stylin' & profilin' & postin' up.

wasn't profiling or questioning the health of the man...you dont agree that paying upwards of 160 dollars for a pair of goggles is a little ridiculous?

 

They appear to be polarized and comfortable and durable. So I'd say 160 dollars is a good price for durable eye protection if that is what he is wearing them for.

 

No, not if as stated you have cataracts or other eye problems, have prescription lenses or just need a way to deal with glare.

Oh and can we add to the list people who make dumb comments about things that may be saving someones eyesight and or allowing them to see while surfing.

 

Well, actually, you are ridiculing the dude. Your post comes off as judgmental because you have no idea what the gentleman's situation is.

As for the cost of things...you do live in America? Where, you do realize, that every dang thing seems to be exorbitantly priced?

I'd say that one pays what one wants to, or what one must pay, to ensure good health and for bonus chips ensures the ability to pursue one's passion.

 

I got what I thought were quality gogs back last winter. They were made by Vista and were the Aqua Sphere model. Weren't priced anywhere near those above. They had suction around the lenses and I trusted in that. First day out in heavy winter swell they fogged up like mad during duck dives and before I even got out the back through 6-8 broken waves they got pulled down to my neck when the band was pulled pretty tight around the back. Chalked it up as a loss and haven't tried since. Would love to find a pair that works.

Seriously, though, I read a few articles on cataracts that surfers are plagued with; not good. I bought a pair of Sea Specs for nothing close to the amount that guy posted. They work great, they have padding around the eyes, they don't fall off or slide down in wave poundings & they make a helluva difference on right coast DP. I wear them infrequently, I should wear them more. They're a few years old now; good product IMHO.

 

Sea Specs are basically copies of the Oakley sunglasses that are pictured and are cheap. They are not as good quality wise, but they do the job and you don't feel bad when you lose or break them.

I wear them when windsurfing for sun protection and to keep spray out of my eyes. I should wear them surfing as well, but they will fall off on bigger days and I don't like duck diving with glasses on.

Sun protection is very important. My skin is sun damaged from sun exposure and my Dad at 85 gets skin cancers taken off every year because of he has been fishing his whole life. Now he can't do it anymore by doctors orders and not being able to do something you love sucks.

I don't care how I "look": If its a small longboard day, I'm wearing a hat with a chin strap because cancer on your scalp is unlikely to be noticed and will progress, and it isn't sexy to have your scalp peeling and looking like you have chronic dandruff.

No matter what Kelly says, I wear sunblock now (I didn't before 20).

And I always wear a long sleeve rash guard.

Put all those together and yeah, I probably look like kook, especially if I'm on a longboard, but better a kook than a cancer victim.

 

no offense but at 85 I would tell the doctor to f@ck off. Better to enjoy the remaining few years than play it safe.
