A statist is a person believing in the practice or doctrine of giving a centralized government control over economic planning and policy. Real word, real concept. Could be a form of communist central planning as practiced by the former Soviet Union or in any number of forms of autocracies and democracies. Statism is not to be confused with having a social welfare program nor with having industrial policies.

Even if his company pays a portion of his healthcare, it is still a benefit that he is earning.

Wow, you're an excitable one aren't you. Must be all of that pent-up aggression lurking behind the scenes for years. What makes you guys all-of-a-sudden decide to start posting after years of being a voyuer?

Nahh, I'm not sensitive. If anyone thinks I'm all wacky over any of this(besides politics - I am crazy aboot that) is mistaken. Yeah, I get real excited aboot hot shots on a computer.

Statist is not a word. Lose it. And do not use the word, "wanker." This isn't Great Britian.

Nahh, I didn't "follow you" to the CR thread. That thread was started by my pal, so I checked in to see what was new. Then I saw your contribution, and told everyone to listen to you because you are all-knowing. That's what you want, right? Isn't it?

No, I'm not clever. You got me. I haven't checked your profile, but your location isn't listed in the top right hand corner of your posts. I don't check everyone's profile. Sorry. I bet you that you checked mine, I'll have to look. Ah sh!t maybe I'll look at yours to gain some insight into SWELLINFO.COM's latest hero. Hey, how are you at predicting surf conditions?

Of course I bad mouth ideas I don't like. I'm an American.

Ok, I'll look tomorrow for your retort. I can't wait. Remember, Statist isn't a word. It hasn't been since Freedom Fries and the Iraq War. And don't call me "Wanker." That's not a word, either.

If you are going to bad mouth someone expect a retort, but....... its kinda hard to argue when you are butthurt dumb
No pent up aggression, I kept my mouth shut until I felt it was worthwhile to open it, obviously you disagree its worthwhile, but such is life!

Well, well, now. What if it is "Government-run healthcare?" How could THAT be good? And for the poor person earning a meager income, 20-30K, with NO health insurance available by the employer, or if the person is self-employed as such, what options does one have other than an emergency room or clinic, if available.

You or me or someone else may be gifted with employer-provided health insurance and benefiting from the guy above via cheap, inexpensive services -- and pay for it indirectly through hospitals and other health delivery systems. And, that person has earned it indirectly -- give that person a choice as well.

You can get health insurance coverage working at dunkin donuts...too bad they didn't just increase the competion like I mentioned before to drive prices down. Has anyone been hearing about how the online exchange website is already freezing up?

I agree and I'm always amazed how you can practically get called unpatriotic by people who will tell you with a straight face that they are "deficit hawks" just for pointing this out!

    What's up with that?

One could make lots of hay about the waste and duplication in defense. Like why do the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force each need their own air force? Why does the DOD need "5, 6 or 7" Central Commands? Why does the military need subsidized commissaries in suburban/urban areas, i.e., in non-remote locations -- what is wrong with the local Safeway or WalMart? Does the USA really need a mini-Cold War sized and structured force structure?

If you are trying to violently exert your will across the planet in order to facilitate the extraction of resources and not give anything to local people and kill local people who resist you then yes, you do need a cold-war era sized force structure

the redundancy and waste are to fill the pockets of the military contractors. War is a racket, it is about making money, there are no ideals for it

check out the 17 page book war is a racket by Major General Smedley Butler
its free and by reading it you will see who wins...its not the boys that go to fight...at all
    http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/warisaracket.html

    here is a sample:

" Also somebody had a lot of mosquito netting. They sold your Uncle Sam 20,000,000 mosquito nets for the use of the soldiers overseas. I suppose the boys were expected to put it over them as they tried to sleep in muddy trenches -- one hand scratching cooties on their backs and the other making passes at scurrying rats. Well, not one of these mosquito nets ever got to France!

Anyhow, these thoughtful manufacturers wanted to make sure that no soldier would be without his mosquito net, so 40,000,000 additional yards of mosquito netting were sold to Uncle Sam.

There were pretty good profits in mosquito netting in those days, even if there were no mosquitoes in France. I suppose, if the war had lasted just a little longer, the enterprising mosquito netting manufacturers would have sold your Uncle Sam a couple of consignments of mosquitoes to plant in France so that more mosquito netting would be in order. "

I know I know we are supposed to be talking about health care....

i would rather invest (classic government jargon for spending tax dollars) in our military/protecting and promoting freedom than the waste in social programs (statistics have proved that the vast amount of spending increases over the course of decades -percentage wise- in social programs have not helped to bring people out of poverty). Instead, many of these investments have had the complete opposite goal, encouraging or acting as an incentive to accept being taken care of i.e. being dependant and willing to blame others for their quality of life. I in no way mean that there aren't people who need or deserve help, I am saying generally it has been proven that the system is abused and wasteful to the hard working honest taxpayer.

The military is protecting our freedom by fighting other countries' wars for them? Or are they protecting freedom by by acting as world police? I don't even know anyone in the military that believes that. We spend more on offensive operations than we ever do on defense. Yes, I have heard of people who abuse our welfare system in this country. I have also heard of people using it when they really needed it. I think the best thing we could do with those tax dollars, is take a portion of the current defense budget and put that towards science and medical research. Then, look into reforming other areas like welfare. The fact of the matter is, a few welfare abusers are not making this country broke. It is pocket change in the grand scheme of things.

I don't take meds, but I credit you for your originality. No one has ever said that to me before.......never. Totally original

I was arguing politics not "badmouthing" people. There's a difference. Yeah, I didn't make any biting insults like, "butt-hurt dumb." Dude, all the sixth graders on the playground think you are the Sh!T.

Well, I may not be clever and I may be "butt-hurt dumb," but I got you to question your favorite vocabulary word, "Statist." You even had to look it up to see if it existed after you used it twenty times on Tuesday.

So seriously dude, what's your deal? You seem so excited to argue on this site, especially with me. Do you have motives or certain issues? I reckon being anonymous on a computer suits you well, huh? Gives you a bit more guff and bravado, huh? You remind me of somebody from the past, but I won't play that multiple character game thing.

Dude, you are a political genius -and allegedly from Hawaii- wow, I didn't know such brain power existed in Hawaii. Well, besides OIPAUL. No wonder choke mokes hate the white man. I guess I would too seeing the douche bags who move over there. You sound like one of them College-Know-It-All Hippy types except you don't smoke weed you pop adderral.

Hey, you didn't happen to get transferred from NC to HI did you? Anyways, your wit and insult game is just top notch. "Wanker"......"Butt-hurt".........just good stuff.........well Bill Cosby's Nephew seems to like it. You're well on your way when you have Bill Cosby's Nephew on your side. Oh BCN, if you got a problem deal with it yourself don't let somebody else handle your business, and then chime in with one word posts.

But sorry to disappoint you MakeItStop. Your political visions and knowledge, and your stunning brutal wit will not be appreciated nor recognized by me. I know what your mission is, and it's not going to work. Not this time, partner.

Democrats: "You republicans are big bad meanies!" Wah Wah Whah
Republicans: 'You Democrats are sissys!" Wah Wah Wah
We all have the wool pulled over our eyes from both sides. You think those in power on both sides REALLY give a rat's a$$ about us?
In the past, since Washington (the guy, not the city or bridge for you dumb-a$$es) was 'appointed' President, both sides have always worked out compromises in smoke-filled back rooms to make sure this thing called democracy kept chugging along for better or worse. (Google Compromise of 1877, Missouri Compromise, The New Deal, etc). All the way up through Clinton. Only twice on our history has there been failures to compromise: The Civil War and today. We're about to reap what we sow by electing these idiots.
