Chavez I couldn't agree more. Sometimes I feel like debating this stuff is a moot point cuz us regular folks are gonna continue to get F'd in the A anyhow. PJB and ChavezYChavez in 2014!!!
there should be term limits in congress. there are way too many lifers in there... but its tough because they would have to vote their job security away. also, we have the ability to vote for people who can bring the changes we want (like term limits, but it would take awhile for them to get on board with that). so saying we have zero control isn't exactly true, but it is tough for big changes to take place; getting a majority for them. I cant believe markey got in over the navy seal gomez in mass... a guy that has spent 30 years in politics and before that was an ice-cream man vs. a navy seal businessman. lol good old Massachusetts... barney anyone?
i love reading about all these dumbarse old republicans who rant about obamacare like its the end of the world.aca is great for low income families, and u can have ur kid on ur policy aslong as there under 26.in the past ur kids couldnt get on if they were older than 18.america will never have free healthcare.healthcare is a trillion dollar business in america, just think about it.could u imagine if there were no insurance and u didnt even have to pay a co pay.my pcp is 250 each visit without insurance.primary care phsyician by the way,not the drug!!medications,15 co pay,no insurance 300.the pain killer department reaps billions a week!!half my town is on those pills, imagine if they were free and everyone walked around doped up.cancer treatment,100k for surgery.these people are bigger than the mexican drug cartels.and i must add how hilarious it is that the gov is shutdown, frankly i dont give a fuch, but just 6 weeks ago we had enough money to launch 2.5 million dollar patriot missiles at syria, now we cant even get mail on saturday!!they say obamacare is a job killer, well the republican shut down put 800,000 gov workers out of work
def glad to see the conversation keep going you gotta gotta keep talking about this stuff as zrich said Ive never claimed to be from somewhere or a genius, im pretty much a regular guy who values freedom above all else, aggression bad, mockery good the longer the shutdown goes on the longer the gvt proves itself irrelevant
That's a bit extreme, seriously doubt that's going to happen if you and I just simply don't care about the things we have no control over. If you really want to make a difference the only way is to do it from the inside, and even then you may not ever make a difference. Nobody cares what us regular folk have to say, it's like NFL owners not caring about what the fans have to say. We're just fans, we'll watch regardless, well we'll be citizens and pay taxes either way, paying their paychecks even though we really don't want to. It is what it is. The world is controlled by a few, pretty sad, but true. I find it much healthier to just try and enjoy my time here and ignore the dumb BS that's all over the news channels and talk shows. All i hear is "robble robble robble" "derka derka derka", etc. etc.
I'm sure the Germans felt the same way before a major depression due to the effect of reparations from WWI destroyed their economy and led to general ambivalence among the population. This created a political void which allowed Hitler to step in and the rest is history. Go ahead and do nothing. Don't vote, don't get involved. That is your right, but remember, we get the government we choose.
makeitstop - yeah, the longer the government is shut down the more we realize its irrelevant haha I like that. I do feel like some governing is important, but most of it is a waste of my hard earned money.
Yes, square away debt, live simple, grow your own food, take the kids fishing and and spend more time with partner in mutual massage and to quote Taibbi: It has become abundantly clear in recent years that the mainstream media can not be identified as anything other that a collective of mediocre, corporate/government ass-kissing presstitutes. MSNBC for example is essentially a straight up PR outlet for the Democratic Party, while Fox News represents the neo-con arm of the Republican Party and the military-industrial complex generally. CNBC has a special position in the presstitute media hierarchy. They basically defend Wall Street at all costs. The station represents the most important media gatekeeper for the financial oligarch, crony class END QUOTE and xrich, voting is near useless, there are other ways to get involved and help out the community, you can still totally ignore the gvt and start a community garden, clean a vacant lot, volunteer tutor some kids, food drive, etc. After Sandy before I moved, I helped clear storm drains and stuff, and I bet PJB and I shared some waves
We also get the government we don't choose. It's not up to you and I. They make you think you matter and that your vote counts, but believe me when I say it doesn't. I'm a registered voter, I still vote, but it's futile. I do it because it's my right and maybe a slight part of me says that maybe it'll count for something, but reality is it doesn't. The world will do what it's going to do whether we like it or not. I hear what you're saying about Germany but that was a different time back then, no internet, could easily hide things from the world, and brush things under the rug. The internet connected the world, it's not longer every country for themselves. It's a global economy, global government, global society. The UN would step in long before that ever happened again, nobody wants any one country or dictator getting too powerful. Those days are gone. Why do you think North Korea hasn't been bombed yet, or Syria for that matter. The UN controls it all, not the USA. We (the US) think we're the world police, but it's really the UN. Here's a tip, for all of you that think you're knowledgeable and have the answers when it comes to politics and the world, and want to make a difference, give up your day jobs and go fight for your rights in Washington rather then shouting from your keyboards on a surfing forum. The only way to truly have your voice heard is to get in on the inside. Become one of them, then use your superior knowledge to influence everybody and change the world, one person at a time. Then again, you'd probably end up just like the rest of them, money / power hungry, and willing to sell out to the highest bidder.
Voting certainly seems useless especially in national elections when you live in certain states. The more that feeling gets propagated, fewer people will vote and it becomes easier for someone extreme to step in. Your vote makes a much bigger difference in local elections where you can make a difference. And yes, there are other ways to get involved, but I don't think ignoring the government is a wise idea. Ignore at your own peril. Allow those in power to do what they want and they will continue to concentrate power at the expense of your freedom.
HA! right on on SS! it really is all about the ride, not the destination and Zrich, gvt is a dying behemoth, its best to just get out of the way as it thrashes violently trying to stay in control, Rome didnt fall in a day, but it did fall, those that didnt rely on central authority prospered. Building local networks (meshnets for internet even) and other barter networks will be a good idea I reckon I saw voting work once recently, in colorado for the recall elections for senators who went against the will of the people I mean with congressional approval ratings near 10%, how is that a representative democratic republic?
Yes, put your faith in the UN. They will step in and solve all the problems in the world before they become too big. Unfortunately, I mostly hate people and would be a terrible politician. I certainly don't claim to have all the solutions but I'm also not going to stick my head in the sand just because it's easier than dealing with reality.
I hear you dude, I'm definitely not relying on the UN or anybody for that matter, it's just a fact that they are in control, nothing you or I can do to change that from our place in life. The only person I can rely on is myself and my loved ones, and even some of them will fail us from time to time. I'm not sticking my head in the sand, I just recognize a futile battle when I see it, and I choose to not waste time or energy on those things. Pick your battles. Worry about the things YOU can control and let the rest go, that's one of the best things I ever learned by reading, it's in almost every success book I've ever picked up. If your name was (insert politician name here) then you could worry about such things as you have a voice.
