My brother sent me this vid this morning and found it pretty interesting. Figured I would pass it along..... http://dont-tread-on.me/?p=31315
thanks for that posting. I think some of the site's imagery may scare some people away but all in all it's good advice. I'm removed from the system as much as I can be at the moment and in doing so, I expect collapse, so it's not going to come as a shock to me. If you educate yourself on what "infinite growth on a finite planet" means...it becomes crystal clear. This video series is long and it comes from a Mathematician so he does a good job to demystify economics ... http://www.peakprosperity.com/forum...-causes-our-perpetualinfinite-growth-paradigm
sorry that post before only had the 1st part of a 9 part series... here's the rest of them : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8_sjmRBGPE .
and you could really skip to part 3, where it gets "Real" explaining where the idea of MONEY and FRACTIONAL RESERVE BANKING comes from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOyQe7Zcqss
WE talking about Peak Prosperity ? or the first posted link made by wavehog? Doomsday-ers, esp coming from some biblical angle, are worthy of being scoffed at. However, those that point out that ponzi schemes can't go on forever and cite current and historical events to validate their claims shouldn't be.
anyone who thinks infinite growth on an finite planet is possible is either a fool or an economist...unless we start mining and farming on asteroids, things are going to get ugly when the growth curve hits K You hear that noise? that's Alaric Balth of the Visigoths sharpening his sword
good visual sir MIS. I know this registered with you MIS, but did anyone else get a cold shiver going down their back when Greenspan so nonchalantly mentioned that he or nobody else could "guarantee the purchasing power" of the US dollar in the future? That's really the only point the video needed to make imo. Doomsday preppers or not...people have got to get a grip on what Governments (all of them) do to a nations money over time. That motherf^cker.
purchasing power is bought with violence, so long as we are the most bloodthirsty mofo's on the block, its all good /sarc off
The site the OP linked. Infinite growth is what the free market guys seem to be relying on. After all, they state it will be better for the global economy. Personally, I always stand by the fact that this world is overcrowded, and we need to limit breeding as much as possible. Of course, certain individuals on here claim otherwise. I can tell you that this world would be a better place with about 3 billion less people on it. Start telling people they can only have X number of children. In a few decades, we will see the population reduced to a more manageable level. But then again, that goes against the whole libertarian mindset, so many of you will not like hearing it.
who gets to breed? that's a hard conversation to have. I don't have an answer. likely it would be people who could afford it and dont rely on sugar daddy (be it a human or gvt check) I am not inferring only rich folks should breed, at all. Like said, I don't have an answer and this should be explored in reality and not finger pointing etc. but I sure dont want to talk about it here, oddly enough. This would almost seem completely subjective I mean, what do you measure to ensure a breeding card? cutback spray size? noseride length( board size and time)? tube time? waaay to many factors to decide
No, it is simple. 1 child per person, or 2 kids per couple. That is the only way to make it fair. It isn't about limiting who breeds, but more about limiting how much breeding goes on. That is the problem. This isn't 1800, and there is no need for any couple to have friggin 8 kids. None.
Question the first: a woman is pregnant with triplets, which one isn't allowed to come into existence? the convo QUICKLY degenerates into a moral quagmire with no ending. If I am following this correctly, there is a set of circumstances when either an adult is sterilized or a union/fetus is terminated at some juncture, against the will of the members of said union or body? IE forced sterilization or abortion? What is the limit to the set of circumstances? Have you ever read Shirley Jackson's the lottery? its kinda heavy I'm not saying you are wrong, im just saying its a slippery slope and one has to be more sure footed than a mtn goat not to slip to the bottom There never are easy answers, ever.
I am for forced sterilization. Abortion isn't preferred. There are of course going to be loopholes, like with any set of rules or laws. There could be a loophole for twins/triplets and similar situations. In a perfect world, people who pop out kids left and right would be shunned socially, so that discouragement would help persuade people to stop after one or two. Instead, we celebrate every new birth like it is something magical. We give these people gifts and prop them up on some pedestal. I think we will only continue to have problems if things continue as they are today.
Ok brahs, I'm gonna do the noble thing and stay the hail away from this thread. It's way too political, way too religious, not enough surfing being talked about, and I'm afraid it might venture to discussion of American football. Enjoy this peak as I won't be dropping in on it. That also means I won't be posting any poll threads to collect votes on SI stance on postings for policy on biological engineering.
Yet you still hear Western European Nations and the good ole USA lament about their "falling birth rates"... try and contemplate that for a moment. It boggles the mind how anyone (esp those in power) could think we need MORE people on this planet, until again you look at the kind of world these Socialist/Globalist leaning nations wish to pass on to future generations. They don't care about the environment or QUALITy of life for future generations they just want QUANTITY of life and a mass of starving obedient masses for cheap labor. There I said it.
