Can someone give me one way that making it face towards you instead of the wave is cooler than looking at what you're looking at going away from you?

The Red "X" botton on the upper right corner of the monitor makes it disappear.

Sorry, but narcissism is the new *in* thing for the younger generation...

Yeah maybe. I see a lot of mugs (up close I might add) in these horrible videos that dont look very young.

    Now that is sound logic.

I think gopro videos are really just for personal use. If I take mine out when I surf its for 2 reason.
    1. I really like watching the vid of the session later in the day or the next.
    2. in the future when I'm maybe too old to paddle out all the time I'll be able to look back at all the fun I had.

Don't tell me that its a horrible thing to be able to look back when you're too old to surf and actually see the sessions you had and the great fun they were.
Camera on your board or not, surfing is the biggest "its all about me" sport one can engage in. so all this bs about gopro's being horrible is just pure bs. If you don't like gopro vids then don't watch them you kooks.

also to ans the OP question... no there are not really anyways to point the camera at the surfer and make them look anymore or less interesting. it is what it is.

have you guys seen the lake superior vid that that guy ryan did? he had the camera pointing towards him but he was puting the nose of his board way up in the air and turning around to get video of his friends surfing down the line at a high angle. that was neat

I'd personally love to have a gopro...I'd love to get barrel footage and get still shots of waves and such...and it is nice to get a few pics of yourself on a wave, I prefer ones from a distance where you can see the entire wave, etc.

gotta agree, I can't stand those selfie go pro vids. However, I would love to have one of those new soloshot tracking systems...problem is trying to find something to lock it to on a frikin beach

Dudes. It doesn't happen unless its on your facebook page. Back in the day people actually spoke with one another. Now, you just say "Dude. Check this out." and take out your gizmo and fire up a video. had a nice day of surfing with no pics or photos? Didn't happen. Had a crappy day of surfing with a selfie go pro cam filming all day, nothing but shout outs.

A buddy of mine was raging...RAGING ..about a go pro video he just watched. I have not seen it yet. It is titled: "Peace & Barrels 3", and he said a guy paddles out in huge Indo with the cam in his teeth, then gets deep and grabs it in his hand and gets these amazing shots of riding in deep big blue tubes. I guess I'll try to YouTube it later. He says it is about 12 minutes long.

My go pro is mounted on my tinfoil surf helmet so I get maximum def. Just waiting for waves and then BOOM! goes the dynamite!

I just looked it up - I think he was referring to Peace and Lefts 3 by Hugues Oyarzabol. No time to watch now, I'm taking my wife to the beach in a few. Its about 38 minutes.
