Thanks for the wise words. Oh and what makes me deficient? I'm not the grammar police, but that word is just terrible. Not even clever the way you used it to try to nail Emass. I bet you also say Hella a lot don't you? By the way, if I'm planning to go to Cali, I wont be hitting up Malibu there buddy. Just not enough time to sit around with you and B-Rad and spit the dope rhymes. "I got sumtin' to say, and I need the world to hear it. I'm a lyricologist. I can rap about anything. Shrink, shrink. Blinkity-blink. Tried to make me think. Wanna go to my sink. And vomit. Clean it up wit' Comet. Earth is my planet. See? I'm the shiznit."
Just checked the forecast for tomorrow, waist high. Swell info has it "red" but winds will be NE. That shouldn't be too bad, maybe things are turning around. This fall still sucks though
My worst fall was last week rollerskating along the Charles.. some skateboarder on a carver pushed me in by the duckboats.
Yeah, but you were wearing your pads and helmet right? And what were you thinking, blading next to a Carver like that? You should know better. Those things can reach speeds of 4-5 mph.
Fall is starting to wind up down here. It's been onshore but rideable shoulder to head high lately, and today it was glassy shoulder to head high lined up sets early am, semi clean shoulder high plus rest of the day. Thanksgiving on could be good. Two more sessions like today and no booze till Saturday and the old wetsuit should fit.
it's the best swell for this beach.medium/long period or too big closes out here.late may/early june was the last time it was this good here.my friend said Hatteras was good this fall September/October.they got swell we didn't
HTML: I pump the schitt outta the 36" Pintail and get serious speed even on a slight incline. Went to round-lip harder wheels on one of my two shorter boards and now that one keeps up too. I put 63mm on the Knox as an experiment and those are too slow for the streets. It's my bowl board now. I don't hit up the city much to ride pavement. Too many crunchy grad students in the way and the wahines are subpar this time of year. The 7s and up (4s on the Southern scale) have all wifed themselves up with rent-a-chumps by now for winter warmth and a reliable doormat. Even if I did push life kooks in the Charles, it's been cleared for swimming these days.
Oh yeah, speaking of worst fall ever... A week after I got my first Carver (the Knox), I was rebelling against the advisement that those boards aren't built for downhills by bombing a downhill in a suburban downtown. Married couple came around the corner pushing one of those tandem (or dualie?) baby carriages when I was 30ft from them. Didn't have the board sliding technique down yet so my only braking mechanism back then were wide turns. Had no space to do so with cars coming down ways, an island separating the two lanes, and Stiff Family Robinson occupying the sidewalk so I heaved myself off the board and tried to run it out on foot but didn't stand tall enough once my feet hit ground so I face and body planted on the asphalt in front of a dozen people. When that happens, I laugh maniacally and pop right back up with no hesitation. I scared the beRoyzeus out of those commoners that day.
They're ready to go and the bearings and wheels on them sticks are proper. I've only deviated to experiment and go beyond the "cruiser" intentions and make it more dynamic in the surf skate sense. Gotta fill the flat days with some sort of stoke. I dig it since I've grown to appreciate skating quite a bit in its uniqueness and varied disciplines. In the end, I just want to befriend centrifugal force and give gravity the bird.
Ever try sliding a longboard? I'm not much of a skater so I don't know exactly what it's called but it's pretty fun. I use a "bowl" style board I guess and it's just a little longer and wider then a normal skate board. Being a surfer Id say it's like a fish, skateboard style. Any way you throw some hard wheels on there and made a pair of gloves with cutting board, hot glue, and gardening gloves. Bomb a hill with enough speed put your hands down, kick the board out and slide. Here's a video because I suck at explaining things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SULdUBNhEuI If you get a hill big enough or enough speed you slide, come out, slide again, carve carve sliiiiiide
Brah, it's a primary braking technique for downhill. They make palm-padded gloves specifically for this although I dig the MacGuyver tactics. I first used 7mm beat up surf gloves. Anywayz, the Monsta is tryna tell ya that Bert tech changed the game. Both on the pave and in the wave. Screw the downhill and long boarding crap - Bert slides in a pool or bowl are the regime. Hard, hard hacks son. I got a long, long road ahead of me in the surf but I'm glad my skills are in the formative stages as the Bery style is what I'm seeking to craft with the Carver and then work it into my water game. If you guys want a treat, look up the couple Larry Bertlemann surf vids that are on Lougle. The man made the board rip. Before him, surfboards just sunk. Dude touches the wave on every turn. Listen to his words when he talks about big waves just being sick smaller waves tucked inside a taller face and bigger lip. Bert said he just finds the smaller clean part of the face and surfs that. Great way to think.
I surf in the winter. I'm perfectly sane. I don't know anyone who has ever tried surfing in the winter and came out of it not liking it. It's just like surfing any other season just with a thicker wetsuit. You are the same temperature in your suit as you would be in your fall suit.
I dont wear gloves when I burt.. but I should.. They just seem cumbersome. Hey spicoli what bowls do you like to skate in this area? Do your rock the carver in the pool or go with a traditional pool board?
