Hahaha nothing against short shorts, much against releasing helium filled balloons into the atmosphere. Can't tell ya how many piles of delfated ones I've seen in the water. That's where they all end up.
Yup, turtles, birds, whatever other fish eat jellies...especially considering the amount of plastic that's already floating around in the ocean. All for a fleeting moment of whatever they were celebrating(the human balloon releasers).
yea dude, I worked in the high Mojave Desert back country in my last employment pursuit. Balloons were everywhere. Leading cross country expeditions you could find a few every single day. ****s gross
It certainly is, and f**king depressing. The ironic thing about it is I bet people that do it don't even realize that they're being harmful, and the other half just don't care. We'd always see an increase in June when graduations and sh!t are happening.
Right on BBG. *As an aside, if anyone ever actually lathers themself in personal lubricant to make getting out of a wetsuit easier, we are doing god's work on this here surf forecasting website.
Haha well my little aside was in reference to that current getting outta the suit thread, but if we did what you said that'd be pretty sick too, although I suppose balloons could be used responsibly.
there's so much blatant littering going on right now. I've come to the conclusion that most people really are just plain stupid. I want to kill the people that frequent starbucks for throwing their plastic cups on the street, on the sidewalks, and in the bushes...they're freakin everywhere! There's a movie theater by my house. Just the other day a guy was walking by my house, looked around to see if anyone was watching, then just threw his mega popcorn bucket in my neighbors yard. I yelled out the window "DON"T LEAVE YOUR TRASH THERE!" and he just ignored me and kept walking...right by a city garbage can that was literally 20 feet away. That's the status quo mentality in this country. there's a rivermouth I have to paddle across to get to one of my surf spots and that thing has so much garbage floating around in it (can't imaging what sunk to the bottom). Every time I paddle across, I scoop up a couple of bottles and as much other plastic crap I can hold. People see me doing this and no one has ever said "thank you". Last time I was there, one of the items I picked up was...a ballon. I have to carry a plastic bag with me every time I walk at or near the beach because of all the blatant plastic garbage I know I'm not going to be able to just walk by and leave...but everybody else seems to have no problem with doing just that.
Agreed 100% waterbaby...a trend I see alot around my parts now is people just throw their fast food bags out of their cars when finished...food wrappers everywhere. Good for you for bringing a bag and picking sh!t up, people may not thank you, but at least you know you have a conscience. And on behalf of those of us who care, Thank You.
http://www.clemson.edu/academics/programs/creative-inquiry/projects/spotlight/balloon-release.html Sorry guys.
To add insult to injury, those balloons are filled with a finite resource here on planet Earth... helium.
