This is unacceptable...

Let's get serious. Helium doesn't go bad and it's one of the most abundant elements in our atmosphere. I'm all about stopping Balloons from getting into the environment but our helium supply is doing ok.

 

I dig your save the environment attitude,but theres so much more bs landing in the ocean besides balloons.anything anybody throws away eventually makes its way to the ocean.those rings from the 6packs,always cut them up.cig butts,bottles,etc..I don't even know where to begin.u don't shyt where u swim,unless you are physically challenged.every time I go fishin with the old man,he tosses everything and im always cleanin up after his azs.young people just don't know any better,i wouldn't say surfers are litterbugs,but u cant deny fishermen are a bunch of slobs

 

I saved 2 birds from fishing line this year:

One was a seagull tangled in line down by the pier. Fortunately the hook hadn't dug in yet and I was able to unravel him/her relatively easy (other than it kept trying to peck me).

The other was a cormorant deep in the rivermouth (how fishing line got in there is a mystery). That one was super tangled around a branch way out in the middle of the river (had to wade out there) and had 5 hooks stuck in deep all over it's body. Sadly, I was sure that one was a goner...but then some dude waded out with a pocket knife and he was brave enough to grab onto the birds powerful neck. That one was rough...a super-pecker (lol), but we managed to get it free and even dig most of the hooks out. Hope it's o.k.

 

you really gotta watch with cormorants. My landlord rescued one and took it to the vet, had a broken wing, she carried it a mile to her car... The vet told her they usually don't take them in because they are so dangerous to handle and that she was extremely lucky to not have been inured. They said people have gotten destroyed by their powerful neck and beak. blood, stitches and apparently someone lost an eye once.

 

Other then environmental issues with wildlife- it's basically littering.

Ok guys it's like this- let's say it's summer- your enjoying a bike ride on a nice Sunday night throught the wonderful town of Belmar, nJ (best surfing break around btw) and you notice all the crowds are gone- all the parking spots on ocean ave are open- but you also notice that in every spot empty there are piles of trash! They left all thier McDonalds trash and now it's starting to pour- rain- and all that trash washes into the lineup at 16th ave, belmar, nj ... And now after I surf I have to use the netti pot so I don't get sick from McDonalds trash...
