BBG: Dont forget the sugar cane barons too!

    Back to the OP:

here is a list of college courses you can take for FREE
    http://education-portal.com/academy/course/index.html

you then take a test (to transfer your credits, but not all credits transfer to all schools, they have a list of schools and the credits they accept

"Credit-granting exams, such as the College Board's CLEP and Excelsior exams, are available in over 50 subjects and typically cost less than $100. These exams have been around for decades, but their impact has been handcuffed due to a lack of easily accessible study material. Our courses are unlocking their potential and bringing affordable college credit to millions"

here is more FREE education, but you need motivation, so get off the couch (or bring the laptop to the couch)
    and get learning

The confederacy wanted freedom to take freedom from blacks. Sorry man, anyone that uses the succession of the South from the union as a relation to libertarianism or true freedom, is completely out of touch with reality.

I miss school.if u got the opportunity to get some sort of degree go for it.u think school sucks lol, wait til u get a shytty job and work 12hr days makin pennies and not even having time to surf.i didn't even know we had waves today,it was dark when I went to work and dark when I got out.if u want to join the military airforce or navy would be ur best option,as far as pickin where ur stationed, dont fall for that bs.i joined the army with hopes of getting stationed on Oahu, recruiters tellin me how nice it is there sayin I can be stationed there and surf everyday.iraq and Oahu,i cant see how they could of mistakened that.airforce and navy is good because ur on the water,if ur not a great swimmer u will be when u get out of ait.army and marines is a waste of your life,so don't bother with them.right now we aren't at war,but I can see a Syrian or Iranian invasion in the near future.the last thing u want is to have high hopes of chilln on the beach and bein in the middle of the desert watchin out for turrists

funny how there were quite a few free slaves in the confederacy and many were offered freedom to fight for the south. its funny how you can argue about it and always forget about the industrious barons of the north wanting to destroy the agrarian society of the south, so they can make more profit and take power away from the southern states. it showed the country that ..we the states of the south had balls and could leave if we didn't like the direction of northern imperialism.

Strive to be a contributor, not a burden to society. Make a plan with short and long term goals and a time table. Stick with it and fine tune as necessary. The months and years will pass regardless of what you do or don't do. It would be good if you had something to show for it. I recall a saying: "Sacrifice now or sacrifice later".

    Generation Lost.

First of all, we're not your "bruddahs."

Secondly, your generation is, like, dood, gen lost or something. Do you have parents? Uncles? Dyke aunts, even? Do any of them even tell you to STFU with your whining and, in the ol' school, nutty, wacky parlance perhaps tell you to get your shiiiite together? Like, get a job? Save some money, go back to school perhaps?

Listen, sparky, it's tough to read your drivel. Your woe-is-me routine is tantamount to failure, kiddo. Your parentals have failed you.

Go get a job. Save your coin. Realize that there's no free lunch, despite what our bi-partisan insane 'leaders' are claiming.

The sooner you realize that there will always be a place in this world for a man who is willing to work hard, the better off you'll be in Life.

ahhh.no. Secession is not a Constitutional right. Freedom of speech is...that's why you get to spew all this BS

Wrong again...I'll let it pass that you said "Free slaves" and assume you meant free blacks...true until the 1830s when many Southern states passed black codes forcing blacks to leave their state upon gaining their freedom. Offered their freedom to fight? That is an outright and untruth not supported by a single reputable historian. Blacks who "fought" (save a very few examples...I've seen a dozen or so substantiated ones) were slaves forced into service as cooks, servants, and manual laborers...soldiers have guns not pots, pans, and shovels. A few black state milita units raised at the beginning of the war were quickly disbanded due to white southerners uneasiness. Only in the last month of the war when all other options were gone and defeat seemed eminent did the Confederate Congress authorize raising black troops but it was too late to put them into service.

If you view the Constitution as a Contract, a social contract... then Secession is morally right, reasonable and Constitutional. Any Contract entered into involuntarily is something all together not-a-contract. It's bondage. I'll let these links further illustrate my thinking:

here's an excerpt from a speech by Lincoln (the great "emancipator") in 1848:

"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the
right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that
suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right – a right which
we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases
in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it.
Any portion of such people, that can, may revolutionize, and make their own of
so much of the territory as they inhabit.

See this is what is wrong with America today. Get your lazy a$$ back to school or get a job and stop being a burnden to this country.

Good for you. Thats is what I would do.

Come on Jr. You go to one semester of school, drop out then rehash one of the most overused reason for the war like you are a history prof with a PHD? States rights were only one of many reasons for the war.

Bingo!!!! This is the truth, this generation thinks all will be handed to them and someone else will take care of them and their woes.

This has nothing to do with or against the OP, just a place to drop something I ponder...I think if you look at our species as a whole, each generation grows successively weaker(for lack of a more comprehensive term). I mean I think of my granparents, who lived through the depression, and they basically provided for themselves year round, in a relatively urban environment at that. Year round supply of home grown fruits/veggies(fresh and canned), living off of basically nothing and somehow providing for their families, etc...

My childhood(I'm 32) was relatively easy...I didn't have to work on the farm, didn't start working 'man jobs' til I was 18(started working kiddie jobs at 14)...but we were OUTSIDE, skating, playing in the woods, surfing, etc. READING...thank god my mom instilled that love...teens/young adults now can't even go for a ride in the car w/out staring into the soft glow of some electronic device. Idk...lost my train of thought, but as the old fishermen used to say...

"When the ships were wood and the men were steel"...those days are over and were getting real soft. We've devolved from a species that used to hunt mammoths w/ five guys armed w/ atlatl's to pigs in troughs that don't even know where our food comes from(the masses, not you righteous dudes). I know I know, I'm delusional.

To set the record straight on this BS slavery/secession conversation:

    1) Secession was an economic decision to protect an established industrial system on which the South's entire economy was based, whoever says it was because the South wanted to oppress Black People need to read with both eyes open and think with more than half their brains. Bottom line it doesn't matter what color the slaves were or where they came from, any ethnicity could have been substituted and the end result would have been the same.

    2) How the Civil War ended was inevitable, and again was based in economics at its root. The Southern States knew they couldn't survive without the Northern States buying all the food, cotton and tobacco they were producing. Likewise the Northern States knew they could not survive without having direct, cheap and unencumbered access to food, cotton and tobacco. Any Northerner who tries to claim some moral high ground because their American (I say this because almost every American is linked to a slave owner or a slave somewhere in their ancestry, but since the argument cherry picks the beginning point of history at America's inception I have to go on that basis) ancestors didn't directly own slaves is full of chitt. Slavery would not have existed if there wasn't a market for the goods it produced... ahem...

    3) People who keep beating this dead horse seem to conveniently ignore the fact that a)Many of the slaves stolen from Africa also enslaved people from other tribes they conquered and b)American slavery was small potatoes compared to what was going on in the Caribbean.

Now that you mention it, Northerners seem to be much more aggressive than Southerners... especially on the road!

People don't realize that in order for the slave situation to have changed in AMerica SOMEONE would've had to REVOLT against the USA. Slavery was enshrined in the constitution. If the Slaves wouldve revolted as many abolitionists wanted...they would've been mowed down by the US Army only following orders. So no Northerner has any high ground here. the troops wouldve went South had there been a White led revolution OR a Black lead one in 1861. FACT
