I don't know about any of y'all, but I've got about 6 different possible teams for this event and am bound to explore many more before I lock it in tomorrow. The way they run this comp makes it really risky to pick any wild cards since they are seeded into Round 1 and will yield a big fat goose egg points-wise if they don't win their heat.

I'm getting paralysis of analysis here, so wanted to see if anyone has a remotely solid idea about what they're going to do with their team. Let's hear it!

I'm going to go butcher some wood for a few, hope to have some insight I can post by then....

i'm confused about jordy dropping out...posted on the fantasy board about it. anyone have insight? injury? not in contention, so he said "**** it" & went home?

i'm pretty comfortable w/ my team. i've got 2 wild cards, dorien & lau, but i feel like they're solid bets...dorien is a master & zeke lau seems to be on a tear at the moment. doesn't look like it's going to be a barrel-fest w/ so little swell on the horizon, but it should be a decent comp all the same.

any thoughts on who's going to walk away w/ the crown? i think mick has to make the semis to win & kelly has to win the whole comp. the only thing is that mick hasn't ever really had much competitive success at pipe.

Damn, didn't see that. Here's the story with Jordy:

Broke his toe in Protugal (maybe it was France), which winds up being a convenient excuse for him to drop out of Pipe and work on his upcoming wedding... or something like that. He's got good enough results that he really won't fall back more than a couple slots by not showing up, so it's not a crucial contest for him. Apparently he has other things on his mind that take precedence right now. The only benefit is he will cost less on FS next year than if he surfed this comp--still pissed because I have a ton of equity in him right now.

Erock - Same here, I changed my team 3 times. I originally changed it to include the hobgoods but then I read the swell direction was going to shut down the lefts, so I switched it to all regular footers (except for my freddy p.). Thanks for setting this up and making it happen, made the season much more interesting.

While writing this I just seen someone get an insane barrel on the cam!

    My new team:
    Slater-Doesn't come off the squad
    Fanning- same reason
    JJF- duh
Bourez- Triple crown front runner and pretty good in these conditions
    Seabass- why not
Freddy P.- Hunch, although I'd rather have Perrow but his draw looks rough
Bruce Irons- I don't know why
Ezekiel Lau-draws good and he knows pipe
Shane Dorian- Alternate because of his superb acting skills

I was starting to analyze it too much. I aint winning any trips and I probably couldn't win the league so Im just gonna let it ride. All I'm hoping for really is an awesome contest.

Man, that's a statistically risky team but I really like it... as in it's almost identical to one of the options I've put together so far--except I was thinking about Dos Santos instead of Bruce. I really like Bruce's surfing, but not in a contest.

I think the turnout and participation in our club has been great. Not to mention our scores are pretty tight even beyond the current top 10. We've had probably 10% of those who joined fall off, but that's pretty good IMO. The club will be there next year and hopefully we can get some more folks into it. I love watching and following contests, but having some imaginary skin in the game makes them even better!

All you have to do is sign up on Fantasy Surfer: http://fantasy.surfermag.com

Then you can go to the "Clubhouse" tab and find Swell Info Crew in the public clubs. Click "join" and that's it. It's free. I'm thinking about putting a prize together for the winner next year and those who want can pitch in some $ then we can figure out what said prize is. By no means mandatory, just to make it a little spicier next year.

njsurfer: Jordy by far has the least experience at Pipe for where he is in the current standings, plus his past showings have been pretty hit or miss. He charges big waves and did great in Tahiti a couple years back until he broke his ribs. I would have only left him on my team because of the equity I have in him and he's far enough up the draw that he would be more likely to win his R3 heat. That said, I think experience is golden at Pipe. I'm trying to get the most experienced team for the best price.

OK, I'm seriously considering going with a 7 man team but I'll show you one of my 8 man possibilities:

    Jimmy Slade
    Ceej
    DoubleJ
    Spartan
    Seabass
    Damo
    Nat
    KP
    Alt - Raoni

This gives me 5 guys seeded into R3 and 3 in R2. If I go with a 7 man team I can keep all but one seeded into R3...

Get your teams locked in folks. Been watching the Pipe and Backdoor cams--people getting shacked out of their brains in the pre-dawn!

I get overly nostalgic with my pics. I'm like "go America, yeah! I'll take Paddy G as my alternate!"
By no means has he proven much in reef barrels...but FS is a fun way put even more equity into who I'm going for anyway.

your the 1st to post brucey irons, with Idk why,and il add how the phuk don't u know why.bruce been the man at pipe for the past decade,he just fell off the radar once his bro died.bruce has always been my fav out of the irons bros, both rip equally good and I just love the shyt bruce preached.he used to talk about how quik and billabong would do interviews with the 2 like which one of u surfs better and hed be like whos house is bigger, whos car is nicer, who the fuk cares.they used to rival the 2 to sell products and bruce called them out for it,and that's why u don't see bruce anymore.he sed fukit, and while most of us don't get to see him surf anymore believe he still rips better than everyone on the wct.u could really only compare bruce to dane Reynolds, they both hated the tour and competin in shytty waves.they would rather be a freesurfer and surf epic waves whenever they want.

anyway I don't play fs,but il put my pick on mick winning the world title, jjf coming in equal 2nd or 4th,depending on wave conditions.i just hope this isn't another pipe contest where guys like cj lose to a 5.6 wave total because they run when the swells drop.if ke11y wins the world title,il buy everyone in florida a shot.all mick has to do is make it to the quarters, and for someone like mick its not hard.but don't forget slater beat mick at Fiji, beat mick in the semis at the goldcoast.mick rips but I don't think hes a smart competeter

lost both my wildcards in their first heats...kind of a bummer.

i know he's a good surfer & he got some great waves, but it's really disappointing to me to watch bruce lose to gabby, esp. after how he surfed in his first heat.

Cepriano- I jokingly wrote "I don't know" next to Bruce's name. I always put him on the team when he's competing cause hes a pipemaster , great surfer and ever since AI passed I've been waiting for him to tear up the tour and battle against Slater like he was doin it for AI and his spirit and all that cool stuff but unfortunately lifes not like the movies..

its not like a box of chocolates either so I know what I'm getting when I pick him- a guy that's not getting passed the 3rd round probably ever again. That's why I dropped him before the competition. Some people need good waves (and priority) to show how great they are and good waves don't always come every heat.
