I was looking to get a new snowboard and was wondering what are some good brands (alternatives to Burton, too expensive). Also, does anyone know a site for cheap boards? Thanks.

rome, stepchild, libtech are all good, lesser known brands that build a real quality product check em

Be sure to buy a board based on your riding style though.. If you're doing strictly freeriding for ex. dont buy a lib skate banana or something. But if you're a park rat, get a park board.

I rock two Salomons, one for freeride and one for park. I really like my freeride one.

Whiskeymilitia is definately a cool site but you never know what they have up. I've seen some Arbor which is nice too.

Libtech/GNU are really nice too...magnetraction and bananna...I don't have one but heard great things about it holding in ice, and good edges for park (you can dull it and it still holds on the snow).

You can always check Transworld magazine's buyers guide. Future snowboarding had a great yearly guide but they are out of business.

Where do you live? If your in NJ I know some good shops to ask. As for Burton, I don't think they make garbage but it's definately paying for the name, and there is stuff out there just as good or better. I usually will not buy a burton.

That Ride board seems like a good deal for $150. Good choice not going with Burton, i've had 2 burtons break on me and they are way overpriced. I've worked at whitetail/Liberty/Rountop for 4 winters, and from my own experience and heresay Rome seems to make the best boards especially for park. Also, Whitetail is expanding it's park and improving it's ****ty halfpipe this winter so you guys should come check out the scene up here this year. The pitcrew civil war contest is going to be legit.

I would definitely go with Rome. They make amazing boards for all different styles of riding. The guy who created the original Burton Custom board broke off to start up this company. You may not be able to find them in every shop but they are definitely worth looking for.

honestly, youre a moron. just type in snwboards in like google or ebay and you will find a good deal. if youre in the mid atlantic, dont even bother getting anything other than a park board because it never snows here, the parks are solid, and we dont have a trail thats over a half a mile long. i just got a fresh pair of technine MFM pro bindings on ebay for $100 less than retail. and i dont know if i regret this but, i got a burton twin in august for like 220, and it goes for 450, so thats like the main reason why i got it. i also heard that other good park boards are capita. look at forum snowboards, rome, ride, technine..... never buy a board for full price, hurry up and get one now before the prices start to go up for the season. it basically depends on where you live/ ride, how often you will ride, and since youre probly a beginner im assuming, then maybe you should get an all mountain board, and actually know how to ride before going into the park. that pisses me off more than anthing. but anyway if youre looking for an all mountain board, then i guess burton, flow, K2, rossingol, and salomon. have fun buddy and get a board very soon.

Check out Nitro boards. I ride a 161 Naturals. Great all mountain board. Nice to have if you're going to ride East Coast primarily with a trip or two out west to get in some powder. Nitro boards seem to be increasingly everywhere you look now so shouldn't be hard to find one. My two cents.....

161 sounds awfully long for an EC board. Cheap and snowboarding is an oxymoron cause it's an expensive sport. depending on where you live, you could probably get a good deal at a local ski/board swap event.

For Mts, Stay away from Liberty, or Roundtop unless you love to pay big bux for very poor conditions.

all you guys bashing on burton are sooo wrong. Their boards may be a little pricey, but they also come with a warrenty. So if you break it within a year you can send it back and get a new one for free, no questions asked. And their boards are all top quality. I have ridden tons of boards from many companies, and when it comes down to it none of the others can compare to the burtons. And the are definitly not undurable at all. I rode over a hundred days last year, all my boards held up just fine. My custom X that i have had for 4 years now is still my go to board for freeriding in less that a foot of pow, and it still preforms like a champ. Don't steer away from a company just cause some people think it isn't cool, cause trust me man i have ridden em all, and i only buy burton boards now. But as for your snowboard needs, i am not to sure what companies i heard you mention, i think i heard k2 or soloman, i steer away from these companies, also no harsh feelings to any posts above, but tech nine is absolute crap. Very very low quality stuff, at jacked prices, cause kids think its G. But really man there are so many boards out there, its really up to you to just find what you want man, just find a board that suits your style and budget.

Ps. Went snowboarding yesterday!!! The season has offically started out here in Colorado!!!
