Honestly, it takes all types. Longboard, shortboard, gay, straight, who cares? As others have mentioned we are all the potential punchline to some one's joke.

Down here in Buxton we have some from VA beach and Canada come down. You can tell when they fart, condoms start floating through the lineup. I tell them to pick that **** up. Bad for the turtle's digestive tract, they think it's a jelly fish and eat it (either that or the are gay too).

for some reason the southern OBX and especially Ocracoke is like a sandy lesbian wonderland. Wool socks and birkenstocks lesbians though, not like drunk college girl lesbians. Big difference.

 

I have never noticed one out in the lineup, however, are we really talking about this in this day and age? I know a couple gay people in my in-laws family and they are just like everyone else. They are people. Who cares who or what they love?

Not sure what someone's sexual preference has to do with surfing??????? What about political affiliation or people who drink craft beers. I mean, what frickin' difference does it make? I'm usually trying to catch waves while out in the line up and don't have much time to get so up close and personal. I've found out where people live, what they do for a living, how long they've been surfing and where they buy their gear, but other than that, I couldn't tell you much else. I only know if they have kids when their kids are out there surfing with them. I found out that one of the women surfers didn't get back into surfing until a year after her c-section and that's only because I was back surfing 3 months after mine. I remember there were gays who got upset that they couldn't march in some St. Patrick's day parade. I couldn't understand how anyone would know if they were gay or not. I'm so tired of these ridiculous "are you gay or not" conversations.
