I want my athletes on drugs, I am here to be entertained, I want the most bang for my buck. I doubt him being sober would create a better speech.......also let the NFL do steroids, who cares if it shortens their life, they hate life after sports anyway

yea danes high as hell lmao,I don't know if he was just that high that he came up with these jokes that cracked himself up.i felt bad for him,he looked like a deer in the headlights,but dane can do whatever he wants because hes dane and hes the flippin best!!he came a long way,dont know how old he is now but I remember him still in highschool blowing the lids off any surfer comin his way.

Most entertainment of the night. Everyone else seemed a little dull. Now kelly, most likely the most intelligent person in the room that evening, is a great public speaker. Dane has Character and is one of the best surfers ever.

 

I didnt find it awkward at all. Dude was nervous and it was obvious, awkward though, come on. And to say dane grew up with a silver spoon would mean you would have to say every other surfer that travels to contest after contest all around has a silver spoon. Becoming pro doesn't happen just by being good, it happens by being able to afford travel costs until you get noticed by someone willing to pay for your expenses

Not overrated at all... Someone that every pro calls the best surfer is not overrated. calling him overrated is what's known as being a "hater"

That makes no sense. Athletes are always judged on their performance. Dude is overrated did not even make it out the first round. Looks like he packed on about 20 lbs. Their is better, faster, younger, out there everyone is replaceable. only thing that dude has going for him, is his name.

 

That is a ridiculous reply... Not making it out of the 1st round in one contest does not mean you are overrated... So he was the 2nd best in the world when he lost to Kelly in the final in France and now he's overrated???

Fact is that Kelly , Bruce, Parko and most others say he's the best in the world... What you think means very little. If you don't like his public speaking skills complain about his parents... If you don't like how he surfs you just don't know what good surfing is.

 

just saying he packed in on like a porker. he looks fat, fully, and happy. heavy breathing and sweating during that speech. looks like he is running on dunkin and beers.

 

He's not fat when you see him in the water... If he gained a couple of pounds fine, but he still rips harder then anyone

 

a lot of pro (actionsports) athletes skip high school/get home schooled

 

looks like he could be either a total moron who is a great surfer or on his way to the hospital for an alcohol or drug related overdose, or it's a put-on and he's not really that pathetic. i always like when people laugh out loud at their own speech,especially that laugh.but he's such a hero to so many that it all gets overlooked and called great.i've seen this act so many times before,and unless it is a moneymaking act, it's not gonna end well.he will get old.if he's really that fried I hope and pray he gets help.he could keep making surfing progress with his talent or wind up another bertlemann,MP,jay adams,buttons,and the list goes on.looks headed more that direction than what he could be,more like curren and slater still ripping and not such a stupid,stupid ass.

 

Def. I agree. I know that he was home schooled. That is why I referenced born with a silver spoon in his mouth. It was handed to him on a platter. Real hard life surfing and not going to school and traveling. Shoot I am sure about 50 percent of these surfers on this site would have made it to the same level if not higher if give the same opportunity. As a professional athlete it is important to be a role model as well. I would not want the kiddies watching that.
