Drunk driving teen in Texas kills 4 people. he was 3 times over legal limit. shoulda gotten 20 years in prison. got 10 years probation. LIEyer got him off because the kid had Affluenza. TOO MUCH MONEY! But the poor li'l rich kid has to go into a private rehab in Cali, and can't see his parents for 2 years. Justice has finally come to Texass.

I used to work with kids that had this "affluenza" problem in a treatment program. And I can assure you that it is very real, and most of the time these twits shouldn't be the only ones paying the consequences. Their parents should do the time as well as the child going in for treatment. Often times we immediately want revenge for someones actions, when if you step back you realize the real problem lies within outside factors. Money has nothing to do with raising a child with common sense.

that is not to say money is somehow involved with this kids court decision. I mean come on, Newport beach? The judge should have sent him to a wilderness program, where he not only gets treatment but he learns how life isn't some joyride.

while this clown gets all the press, let's not forget the victims here: brian jennings (43), breanna mitchell (24), shelby boyles (21), hollie boyles (52) rest in peace

affluenza? are you serious? what happened to our legal system? what happened to texas? they used to be so hard, always talking about frying someone in the chair or seceding from the us. sorry texas, but you just got demoted to mississippi status.

"A defense psychologist called it “affluenza,” a syndrome that keeps someone from a wealthy background from learning that bad behavior has consequences. That explanation helped a North Texas teenager get a sentence of probation after he drove while drunk and killed four pedestrians."

"That psychologist cited one instance when the boy, then 15, was caught in a parked pickup with a naked 14-year-old girl who was passed out. He was never punished, the psychologist said, noting to the court that the teenager was allowed to drink at a very young age, and even began driving at 13."

It's a terrible thing that happened.
But I recall a time when a lot of people drank and drove. If someone got a DUI/DWI, it was considered just bad luck and could easily have been one of us on that particular night.
Was it Texas where they once had, in addition to the dry counties, those drive-thrus where one could order and drive out with an alcoholic drink?

DosXX when I moved to NC a driver could drink and drive, as long as he was under the legal limit. When I was in high school (late 70's early 80's) in NY drunk driving was looked at as another contact sport. Watch the old TV sitcoms and movies; there is always a lovable drunk behind the wheel... I'm glad they've tightened up the laws and the attitude has changed, but I think they've gone a little to far the other way. Original BAL for DUI was .15 now it's .08. Two beers at the Fat P anyone?
