Sup bros, new to the Swell info forum, start off by saying love the threads you all put up, anyways, Im doing a surf trip with one of my boys to puerto rico this winter, never been before and am looking for any kind of advice on breaks to surf and cheapish places to stay/ check out… country seems pretty expensive in the winter but screw it I had my eye on the northwest part of the country. Don't live near the coast anymore so I'm really just looking for some nice long boarding waves, maybe move into some more advanced stuff the more comfortable I get. Any advice appreciated!
Stay anywhere around rincon. There will be tons of info in the area about surfing. If you search the web you will find a hand drawing with all the surf spots. Sometimes finding a house to rent works out well if it's a lot of ppl Have you ever thought about a surf trip to belmar, nj? World class waves brah!
How about buying a board down there? I'm assuming its not worth it to fly your quiver down? Not so sure NJ holds anything the OBX doesnt bro
Seriously bro, Belmar,NJ is the bomb, best waves around! They have an artificial reef and everything! I personally have tried that whole buy or rent a board on a surf trip since it cost to much to fly a board down thing... and I will tell you its a great idea! But what I have found in my personally experience is that it takes too long to find a board that you like and it cuts down on the surfing time. you might miss a day or two of surf... then the swell is gone... then what??? I did this one time out in Hawaii and missed a few days. unless your not picky with what board you ride- and will ride anything... then maybe its worth it. I have found its best to bring a board- but only bring one, its a hassle to bring more. bring the board that you can ride everything and anything- 2 to 3 ft junk to 12ft barrels. I would bring a board with some volume. the waves are different on a reef break then here with sand bars. One of the best sessions I had in PR- I landed at like 2 or 3 am in Ponce and rented a car and drove around to aquadilla - sun was not even up yet, but the waves where on! got some coffee and food from the bakery- drove down to wilderness and took a nap until dawn... then took my board right out of the bag and was the first one to paddle out... anyways- hope this help! oh ya- #BelmarbeatsOBX haha
