Hello fellow surfers and opinionated political scummys, Who would like to catch me up on whats going on around these here parts these days. I have been on the road this week, taking baths in antifreeze spraying from the innards of an old van motor and sitting in gas stations while frantically trying to escape the wrath Oklahoma ice storms provide. I do know PJB has been ontop of the game with a harrowing christmas story, but thats about it. Please fill me in, I have a few days to kill before getting back in the water.
Hey Mr. Wasteland, well, my attendance has been spotty this week, and most of my attention has been put towards the holiday classic PJB is spinning, but a few of my observations: -The debate over the steepness of east coast vs. west coast waves has been resurrected. -Wayne started another thread about Jesus. -We're still getting emotional and talking about our respective ages. -Windsurfing boards are being talked about. -Several Yuletide greetings have been exchanged. Drive safe and Godspeed surfingwasteland.
Well put. I've been scoring waves but nobody cares about that... Did anyone else paddle out on Xmas? Any new gear anyone wants to talk about? I got a gift certificate to WRV, but it won't be enough for everything that I want. Cry me a river. BTW, what's better...SF, SD or OBX? Rhetorical question #BelmarIsAlwaysBetter
Well that is fantastic, Everything is the same. I decided, during my travels across our nations heartland, that this forum is much like the greatplains. Flat and boring with the occasional screwball igniting a barn/car/tree/second cousin on fire. Things need to be spiced up around here. Ideas?
Thank you fellers, but I just realized there's one thing I forgot...Belmar,NJ, is FINALLY getting it's overdue recognition as the best, most consistent place to surf on the east coast...thanks for the reminder KK. Good analogy wasteland, no ideas at the moment...but any of you guys see about McCauly(sp) Culkin's Velvet Underground cover band?
Considering everyone on this site is at least 70 ( see the thread - AGE) it would be pretty sad if people started talking aboot what they got for Christmas. Up in the North, late Monday was the only significant wave action of which to speak. Some leftovers Christmas Eve afternoon, as the morning was fugly for some reason. 1-2' since......I think.......I don't know. I care aboot the waves you ride, KillaKiel. I care. You gotta start your own thread - I'm Going Surfing. That's the way to do it.
I went surfing...did anyone? How about that. If you surfed Xmas, where did you go, how were the waves, what did you use boardwise/suit, how was the tide and did you have fun?
Ok, since my 300th post was actually surf-related, I went out on the Eve after work. Initially I went out in the morning, but no one would join me (I try to limit lone experiences after my scare out alone past the pier in VB on the Thanksgiving Eve...it was humbling to say the least, but the waves were great before the winds went to hell around *15 that morning. No one could make it out. The fiendish pleasure I enjoyed up until the scare was priceless). The Current was moving due to the steady North winds. Ah, the North Winds always make a nice left wave for a regular footed chap as myself. I did go and investigate Croatan (I try to avoid the place, for I find I don't like parking in Wes Leine's yard). There were barrels in the water. They were not surfing barrels, but the kind that float. Something was knocked loose. No drugs in them, but someone was flashing a light in the water. The police investigated. There were no deaths to report...your welcome That afternoon (Xmas Eve for you Christians out there), I went out and scored some really fun waves. They lined up well, the winds were light and the rights were fun. There was a softness to them, yet they were wally, allowing for turns and cutbacks. Many will say they don't like those, but I had a great time. Go golfing. The peak placement was inconsistent, but those NNW winds sure do a number in the wonkiness of the VB wave. I always thought the Bay would enable those winds to do more for this place. There is an effect nonetheless and this day was a prime example. I must have been having too much fun. Some time before 5, 2 guys at the next break down paddled right over. Perhaps my wave, as Forrest Gump would say, was "magic". I got a magic wave Lt. Dan! Guys, that is so rude, especially when wearing a 3/2 backzip with new boards and no hood...I hope y'all are reading this. I was so nice. I only yelled at y'all once when ya almost dropped into me on an unmakeablewave. "My bad". No, your common sense is bad, but digress. Xmas Day was really fun. I only got out in the afternoon, but no competition from the heads in the water and I was able to get a nice lil tuck on the freak left. I can't wait to take a dip again. Let us all pray for this low pressure in the Gulf. Sacrifice to your pagan gods if you need to. Man, I love surfing. Joke me for living on the East Coast. There's something to ride just about every day. Everyone complaining...makes me sick.
The last two weeks have been awesome, Christmas Eve was fun until the school bus must have showed up at the beach and dropped off all the teenage little ****s who didn't have school. Christmas Day was tiny and I didn't even surf. I have a 3 year old so Xmas AM is pretty important
This sums it up. The Seen is spot on. Watched, like, 40 doods on the cam at 1st Street VB today. Looked better at Sandbridge. Just sayin'. And it appears as if the OCMD peelers are back after a blech nor'easter closeout autumn. Leaving for CR in 9 hours. Yep, it's been a whole month since I was there. Peace, sexual intercourse & always always always make sure you have a pre-nup, kidz.
Surfing wasteland, can't you just read the handful of threads on your own? Your taking the time to write this, why not use this time to catch up instead? It's a waste of space thread, designed by you to pseudo facilitate your own laziness. KillaKiel, I believe PJB recommended starting your own thread, not hijacking this one (even though it's worthless). Sorry for the lesson on threadiquette, but you both failed that subject. Threadiquette, btw, you heard it here first!
Noticed same at 1st St. yesterday (12/26). Waves didn't look like much. On an impulse, gabbed the board and got in a fun, late afternoon session at Dam Neck. Dolphins were surfing a few as well. It was great watching them play. Three of them swimming parallel to the shore, then as soon as a good swell passed, all three would break right simultaneously and catch and ride the wave. Much better than slugging out on the couch watching Godfather marathon reruns on AME or hitting the post-X-mas sales with the crazy crowds. BTW, have a great trip.
