I recently purchased a new wetsuit with a removable hood. I was wondering whether it is better to use the attachable hood that came with the suit or my own hood that doesn't zip onto the suit.

Hard to make a recommendation on that. I have an O'Neill with the detachable hood and it works great, but I've never tried using a different hood. I would think using the hood designed to work with the suit would be best, no? Trial and error might be your best bet.

Tin foil helmuts work better than both. Your best option by far.

the attachable hood. look man, the folks at the wetsuit company toiled for hours and hours designing that piece of gear, so use it properly. ya heard?

What is the question here? Why would you even entertain a suit with a hood - detachable or not - if you wanted to use another external hood system? External hoods are good for the person who rarely uses one and prefers to shed it when they can. I would have purchased a hoodless suit in that case.
