a few waves from fridays epic swell in south jersey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eP3K2yizc-A&feature=youtu.be
I love that break , such a fun wave. I didn't get to make to that end with the blvd flooding a bit . Glad to see you guys scored down there . Looked a little smaller then HC .
So was the current! Notice the lack of good rides? They were peeling a tad fast (most waves). The guy that got the long ride went over some very dangers and shallow rocks toward the end. I wonder if he new they were exposed the hour before. There were 3 good take off spots but you could absolutely not maintain position on any of them due to the extreme side shore current. It would take 1 minute to helplessly drift past all 3 take offs and end up having to take off where long ride guy did (that part of the wave is to soft and dumps you onto rocks). Good rides we're had but, very occasionally. You had to be lucky enough to drift past the right spot at the right time, or get out and walk back up the beach and try your luck at timing it again. The waves were pretty though. I'm not crying, just clarifying and filling in the important details. John doesn't seem mind having you guys think it was comparable to a flawless reef pass in Indo.
Beautiful photography as a floridiain, I especially enjoyed seeing the icicles hanging off the sign, and the wind drifting the snow against the pole .You northern guys are either very tough or insane.
im not saying it was perfect doug, you are absolutely right the current was insane, spent the afternoon catching 1 or less waves per drift but I still caught some ridiculous ones and so did some of the islands better barrel riders in the morning
I felt the need to paint the whole picture. My bad. Thanks for posting the vid. I like when people post pics and vids related to recent swells.
yeah its tricycle . no I had to check on a few houses for some friends before work , so I really didn't have much time to head all the way down . Had time to take a few photos and bail . plus it was a bit too chilly for my blood that day . Way too chilly .
Untrue, IMO. Strong sideshore currents have a real impact on wave quality especially if you are surfing near jetties or groins, but even on open beach break. Above a certain number of knots, the current alone puts a LOT of texture on the wave face, makes the barrels a lot less makeable, at least any drifty places I've surfed. With that said, those waves look pretty fun.
Nice edit John! I just had the best mind surf session ever on those first few clips. Thats something I dream of (Without the snow, frigid water temps, and freezing air.)
