While traveling with your surfboard on a plane, what would be your ideal bag size? I understand it depends on the length of the board, but I just want to get a general idea of whats being used.
If I were to travel anywhere on a plane with my board I would go with a bigger bag. Pack it with towels so the board doesnt get dinged. Everyone knows that the airport luggage handlers dont care for the items. My suggestion would be to just rent a board when you get where youre going. Most likely its going to be a low cost.
depends how long you are going to stay. For instance, if you are staying a week or longer and plan on surfing a few days or more then i recommend taking your own boards with you. If you are bringing a couple short boards; a 7 or 8ft boardbag should do the trick
I don't understand the question. You say you understand it depends on board size. You question should be what size boards do you guys ride. Answer's will mostly vary from 6' to 9'6.
Air Travel Im going to CA via Southwest , Tommorow , Im bringing an 9-4 longboard and 6-4 short . Im packing them both in a soft bag with extra padding . Will let you know how it goes. SW says its 75 bucks . Hopefully its per bag .
I just dress my board in ladies clothes and a wig and buy a seat next to me for it. Vote Rcarter in 2014 Because if we all work together we can all hate everybody.
I would use a 7ft bag and to cushion your boards so they aren't damaged pack towels around the nose and tail. Then pack as much clothes as u can just so you don't have to pay extra fees for both a suitcase and a board. I have a hard travel case with a lock so I don't usually have that problem but I still pack clothes in it
Get yourself a nice big bag!!! Big enough to pack at least two boards in and make sure they are packed good enough to drop from 10' feet high! Make sure though that they are easily accessible because customs is going to open your bag and tear it apart trying to inspect it! Before going on a surf trip I usually go dumpster diving behind furniture stores etc.... and get all the used bubble wrap and foam, cardboard etc.... to pack my boards. That stuff is expensive if you have to buy it! When you arrive at your destination unpack your boards and save the packing for when you leave. During your trip all that packing makes for a comfy bed too! On a side note, I bought one of those board bags with the soft racks (roof racks) attached to the board bag. This makes life so much easier! When you arrive at your destination you can just throw your board on the roof of you rental car and then tie to the roof with the soft racks.
I actually had a similar question, I'm traveling soon to Australia for a few months and figured I would bring my boards with me since I'm staying for a while. I have a 6'7" boardbag and the 2 boards I'm bringing are 6'4" and 6'. I never traveled with my boards so I was kind of just wondering if that boardbag should be a good enough size.
