Hello everyone, I´m planing a trip with a friend (20 years old both) for March 30th to April 20th. We're both intermidiate surfers, only started surfing a year ago but we can do decent stuff! Already working on turns, cutbacks, snaps, etc but never been tubed! We traveled to Nicaragua 2 times last year for 20 days each time and scored up to 10feet faces and did OK, we can managed up to that big. We're searching the best place for our next trip, which would be in the dates stated above. We're one regular, one goofy footed. Our trip to Nica was to the área of Popoyo and we really enjoyed the surf-east-sleep scenario. We're not looking for any extreme partying since we do that back home, but some night light and girls would be awsome! The things we are taking into consideration: 1. WAVES. We want to score overhead waves everyday. pretty much we want to make sure the place we visit is going off. 2. Affordable. we spent around 1300$ for 2 weeks in Nica each time, not including plane ticket, and we're looking for something similir but can afford a Little bit more. 3. We want to be somewhat isolated from a big city, and tourism. Dont want nothing similiar to San Juan del Sur or Tamarindo. 4. As I said above, we're not very experienced surfers so we want to make sure the place we travel to is not only super hallow, heavy shallow reefs. Places we're taking into consideration: 1. Nica once again since we loved it so much, but at the same time will like to try something new. 2. Costa Rica. We've been told it might not be epic surf at the dates we're going to travel, also we are trying to avoid tourism and super crowds. 3. Peru. Seems OK but since Im regular would like to score rights, and dont really like the idea of cold wáter. we're from Venezuela and never surfed with a wetsuit. 4. El Salvador!! so excited about the land of the rights, but the research Ive done online seems like the spots are in big cities. 5. Barbados, love the idea, even if it is a Little bit more expensive, but not sure if march-april is good time? Also its a half an hour flight from Venezuela so thats a plus. Any other suggestions would be appriciated. Thank you very much
So you want overhead waves everyday for 3 weeks huh? Don' get greedy.. You won't get that at any of those places and probably not anywhere on earth without extreme luck. You'll have fun at all of them though. Been to all of them and loved them all.
Huh, youre right... Maybe I explained myself wrong, all we want is good waves, score overhead if possible. Thanksfor your response btw, which one would you recomend?
El Tunco in ES is so far from a big city. Sounds like what you're looking for. Mad breaks 30 minutes each way. Just make the 3.5hr drive to Las Flores at some point and post up for a week or more.
Barbados and El Sal are very different places. Barbados (expensive) you can pretty much get anywhere in pretty short order where as in el sal (inexpensive) you can spend 1/2 a day going east or west. I went to Barbados last year in April on a family vacation. We were steps from Brandons and scored head high plus every day. I never checked any other spots as I had a great set up right out my back door, dawn and dusk and by day seven I was done. El Sal is grittier, and requires a touch more in the street smarts department if you are going it on your own. But there are some amazing waves and great places to check out.

I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE on this forum; here goes again: the land of perfect lefts (peru) is just stacked with rights. caballeros, pta rocas, la isla (LA ISLA!), playa norte, penascal….and more. it has all that you asked for in your criteria. a 3/2 wetsuit (or springy)….stay at pico alto surf camp in punta hermosa (K43 south). get up early when glassy, go have a ceviche when it gets crowded, the go surf the lefts in the afternoon. si tu eres latino esta un pais bien exotico y tiene que conocer perú porque las playas no están como otros en todo el mundo.
Ummm, yeah.... Barbados is much more than a LITTLE more expensive than all the other aforementioned locales. The airfare will be comparable, but everything else is spendy.
Head to Costa Rica....sorry i'm partial to the country because I've been travelling there for the last 8 years. Consistent waves everyday on the central pacific, easy to get to, easy to get around, beautiful people, great food, warm water....and oh yea did I mention good waves year round. http://www.rovercam.com/ This is Playa Hermosa on hour from the airport in San Jose. Whatever kind of research you did that indicated the spots in El Salvador are in big cities is 100%wrong. With the exception of La Libertad, most of the right hand points in El Salvador are in small towns and remote areas. Based on admittedly limited travel experience, I found the waves in El Salvador and Panama better than Costa Rica. A lot better. Never been to Nica. Early April might be a little early in the season for ES or Panama, which are 100% dependant on southern hemis.
thanks everyone for their responses.. as a venezuelan I have to rely on whats available as on plane tickets, and all that I could find was panamá... ive Heard great things about panamá on this fórums, would you think panamá in march april is a good time? also, which place? a friend of mine went to bocas del toro on that time and said it was only chest high for 2 weeks straight.. another friend of mine went to santa catalina and had a great time but there is only 1 break there.. any other options? thanks
