these kind: these are scary surfboards. grabbed this image from the surfy surfy blog. thought i'd throw it up here for those that don't peruse that esteemed website. it's got lots of fun board porn, though generally of the "alt" persuasion. link to the original post: http://www.surfysurfy.net/2013/09/christenson-surfboards.html
they are of course marvelous….and scary. why? cause once you actually own one you are supposed to use it within the context of its design. (uh-oh)….
my first board was a gun, didnt know anything about surfing at the time,no internet or chatrooms.I tried to surf that thing for months, never getting anywhere.then some dude came up to me in Belmar and said wtf are u doin with that!!!>>?there weren't 23footrs as I hoped for so I got skunked
Dude you seriously gotta chance the title of your thread- once I saw GUNS- I immediately thought- when are we going to meet in Belmar,NJ for a bench off...
save the thread - now that we discussed 'em (guns), anybody own them? use 'em? really? where? i have a 7/6 CI (baby bear), an 8/0 CI (momma bear), and a 9/6 CI (popa bear). its been a while since i used any of them…but they are well broken in. used mostly in peru and hawaii.
i used to have a 6'8" step-up that didn't see a whole lot of action, only got wet when i traveled. sold it in the fall b/c i hadn't used in 3 years. i've never lived any place where having boards of those sizes was necessary, & i'm not sure i have the cojones or desire for that kind of wave any more. i'll be honest, if it's much more than 3 or 4ft OH, i'm prob. not paddling out.
Ill See you there! Im bringing the gold chain polish. Im the guy in a Benz with greasy hair wearing a rash guard and dress pants with an Oompa loompa orange tan.
big wave surfing without going too far into it some big waves are user friendly; that is its not a death defying circusactbucketlist thing, its just surfing. punta rocas (near lima) has a friendly channel real close and allows the rider an easy takeoff…..then you could be doing 50 yard bottom turns… and a cutback of 50 yards…num num. almost ALWAYS breaks, holds to 15 ft my experience there smaller; many 8/10 foot days. ok i don't mean to tease and i hope you don't mind my sharing.
that actually sounds really fun...i rarely (ie: never) get to do that kind of traveling anymore, though. it's gotta be wife-friendly now. it's all good, though. that chicama place in peru must hold a pretty good size wave, though. wonder if the wife would be down for that...
chicama is really as good as the photos (it takes a sooper-dooper photo). but needs a genuine swell to get going. also chicama "cracks the whip"; that is the first and second sections combine to infuse the third section with double energy - the third section goes perfect round and is indeed goofy foot gold. the town stinks and is real far from EVERYTHING. my guess is your wife would not like it. another whoop-de-doo wave is paracas; now becoming a kite-board destination. that left goes on forever and ever but paracas has no welcome wagon and sleep w/one eye open. wave down there (and there a
Does anyone in this thread have a gun in the larger ranger ? If so can you post a pic of its profile?
