Whoa.... thanks dude. Keep em coming. 00:30... 360, beautifully landed. A lot of surfing aerials have that 'barely-pulled-it-off' look to them, but this one was nothing but style and grace. Damn. 1:55 ... air over a 15' crumbling section. Holy sh*t! 2:45 ... Tucked into a detonating mountain. That's commitment.
Perfect recap. I am a decent surfer in my opinion but I don't understand how they do airs and land back on the wave. Looks so easy. I have tried a lot, no joy.
A lot of them practice on skateboards. I saw a documentary from Red Bull with Jordy and Nick and some of their crew using a min half pipe and foam pit to learn. After years of skating I can pull airs on ramps fine and can launch them easily on a wave but not usually land them on the wave as it is moving and not static unlike the ramp. Oh and the opening wave was insane!!!! Nice vid!
I may try to do airs on my skateboard. I don't have a foam pit but I have some grass and an old mattress.

Not sure where to get the foam. Maybe a packing supply store? Only foam pit I ever used was at Woodward in PA. Funn as hell to huck yourself off a ramp knowing youy had a nice soft landing waiting, I even tried a backflip off the launch ramp!

Hell yeah. .. Woodward. I tossed myself off that ramp in all sorts of contortions. It's a huge setup though; if you want to build that yourself, you'll need a lot of time, space, and money. When I was at Woodward, my bunk was at the bottom of a hill. In the mornings, my bunk counselor would get us up and make us roll up our sleeping bags. He would go to the patio, wait for Rollerbladers to come down the hill, and then throw the sleeping bag in front of them. Saw some hard wipeouts on account of that dude. Some mean words were exchanged but no one dared step to our stoop. Seems cruel in retrospect, but that's how it was back then. Now there's scoot-boys everywhere, legions of urban assh*les with longboards, and metro dudes carrying skateboards around as a prop to attract chicks. At least surfing doesn't have those douches. Up here, in January, at least...
Yes sir you are right! We went two years ago in January so we could only skate the indoor stuff but still fun as hell. It was a group of 30years and older folks form a forum called OldKooks Skating I was on when I still skated. It was cool as hell when we were in cloud 9 at the vert ramp a guy was killing it on a BMX bike. I went over to talk to him and realized it was Dennis McKoy godfather of BMX ramp riding! Hung out with him and some others all night drinking beer at the "cabin" house at the bottom of the hill. Was that the one you stayed in? Since we were there on a group trip we stayed in the "hotel" where they put coaches up for the gymnastics camp.
I always thought about the older dude camp. Pretty cool. My skills are so rusty I wouldn't even get my moneys worth if I went now.. I wouldn't have anyone to go with either! None of my crew really skates anymore, it's just me surfing alone, with the occasional street sesh. To be honest, I don't remember about the bunk. My memory is bit fuzzy from that period of my life ... sustained quite a few head injuries, one of which was on some monster vert ramp (14'?) there. I've always been comfortable on tranny, but rarely skated anything over 5/6 feet, outside of an extension. I was on top of that ramp with some buds, joking around about dropping in, and my idiotic, impulsive teenage self just went for it. BAM. Straight to my head, knocked out for a bit. Woke up and skated the day away. I also got racked real good. I got to skate with Steve Cab there, that was cool. Some other pros too. Chris Cole sold me a deck for 5 bucks... the next day I snapped it. Tail to the floor. I have never snapped a deck in my life. That b*stard ripped me off... If you're out there Chris, you owe me 5 bucks. I've definitely got a couple more stories from that place. Might have to revive the 'dumping in water' thread....
