Paging Bitter Party of One.....Bitter Party of One.....yah, beakbreaker I recall you pretty well. You're th nasty, bitterness brigadoon who got owned 8 ways from Sunday, many moons ago, by some of those "royalty" that you now malign. Owned so completely & severely that you retreated to your forest to commiserate with th other hobbits & dwarfs from Maine & New Zealand. Repetitive threads on wetsuits, or Surftech boards, or where to stay on a first trip to Costa Rica..... the Forum is made so much better by these 'surfing' posts every few months. Notice how those new & exciting threads croak of their own dead weight after just a few posts? Someone else made that point better than I could. It adds up to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Yankee...I dont think I'm seeing the same thing you are...a lot of the threads on the front page have multiple pages doesn't seem like a majority of them are losing steam. As well, those that do...well that's the nature of a forum. Further, I've lurked on this board since '07 it's changed in different ways over the years...this seems like another one of those times it changed...it's not what it was a month ago...based on the SI_admin statement he is stoked on the current state---which I assume means that he prefers it this way and means it'll probably stay that way (in light of how heavy handed the mods have been). That being said, probably half of the posts (including your own) are bemoaning the fact that the forum is boring, too regulated, etc. All this to say, why stay? Why keep posting? I don't get it...I ask this in all seriousness...not trying to bait ya just very curious...
I'll go along with this. My belief: freedom of speech. That's it. What do you think this nation was founded upon? Hard fought & won freedom of speech, among many other freedoms. That's why people came to the USA. And still come to the USA. Create a public forum and then censure the people who post on it? Gimme a break. Did you know that the Internet is rigidly monitored, controlled & censured in many nations, such as China, Vietnam & others? You'll say yes, you do know, but the reality of that type of stuff is that people can't express themselves. Therein is my issue with what's going on here on SI Forum. Don't create a 'forum' and ask people to post on topics but then start banning those who you disagree with. WTF is that? King George, buddy, that's who. One of the most disturbing aspects to come out of the NSA-Snowden imbroglio was the poll, after the thing broke, that showed 52% of Americans are OK with the NSA or the feds monitoring email, cell calls, digitalis what have you. And that, my friend, is how effed up this populace has become. One man's humble opinion.

yea but Yankee, SI forum is private property. If you voluntarily come here, you are subject to the rules and can be removed for any reason whatsoever. This does not infringe upon your rights as you can choose to tell SI to shove it and move along with your day I am not saying censorship is morally right, but they can do what they like, if they want this to turn into a skittle-shatting unicorn lovefest (as it seems to becoming), that's their business
"At present we know only that the imagination, like certain wild animals, will not breed in captivity." -George Orwell Reduce communication to the fundamentals and you reduce the populace to fundamentalists. Everyone should, of course, be allowed or even perhaps ensured a chance to discuss legitimate surf topics. This does not, however, necessitate the censure of all other topics. Absolute compartmentalization is nothing but dishonesty; on an automotive forum a conversation about fuel efficiency could quickly devolve into one about petrochemical pollution, replete with all of the political pitfalls said conversation would entail. Should the conversation then be limited to vehicle specifications only? And what of our thread about surf vehicles? Should the same restrictions apply? Punishment of non-obscene speech is not rigid pre-ordained censure, but it has a 'chilling effect' on community speech nonetheless. Post-censoring the forum to a discourse on the mechanics of surfing? Well then, why don't you reduce surfboard craftsmanship to a more fundamental, manufactory approach? At that point, you might as well just have the boards made in the Chinese interior, because the labor is cheaper and more efficient there, right? First they came for the haters- but I did not speak out- because I was not a hater. Then they came for the Southerners, but I did not speak out- because I am not a Southerner. Then they came for Paddington Jetty Bear, and I did not speak out- because I am not a bear. Then they came for me- and there was no one left to speak for me.
Agreed, that was awesome stuff S-dawg....props to S-quik for the citation. Who says we're idiots on SI Forum? Oh.....MSW does?! Anyways, I'll always take the wingman pos when it's underdogs that we're talkin' aboot (nod to PJB there). Always backing the underdog, esp in this day & age when whatever gen this is doesn't seem to recognize that it's all slipping away faster than you can say Big Brother Up Thine Arse. #impactingthecoastforbelmar#
There's no disputing what you state, MIS. "Of course, in one sense, the first essential for a man’s being a good citizen is his possession of the home virtues of which we think when we call a man by the emphatic adjective of manly. No man can be a good citizen who is not a good husband and a good father, who is not honest in his dealings with other men and women, faithful to his friends and fearless in the presence of his foes, who has not got a sound heart, a sound mind, and a sound body; exactly as no amount of attention to civil duties will save a nation if the domestic life is undermined, or there is lack of the rude military virtues which alone can assure a country’s position in the world. In a free republic the ideal citizen must be one willing and able to take arms for the defense of the flag, exactly as the ideal citizen must be the father of many healthy children. A race must be strong and vigorous; it must be a race of good fighters and good breeders, else its wisdom will come to naught and its virtue be ineffective; and no sweetness and delicacy, no love for and appreciation of beauty in art or literature, no capacity for building up material prosperity can possibly atone for the lack of the great virile virtues." -- TR
maybe not everyone agrees. maybe that's a good thing. maybe people are entitled to differ. maybe one's perception differs from the truth. maybe some people find the forum isn't as full of wisdom or humor as others. maybe it's a hypocrite calling out hate.
beachbreak, you still mad, bro? Don't forget your sincere apologies a few weeks back after you went angry birds on err buddy here. Goosfrabah brah!!
not mad. we're fine. perception. I just don't always agree. dissent is not hate or anger. I admit to being hypocritical. aren't we all? don't take it personally. I enjoyed your kindness to me after my apology.
We are all a progress work braddah. The kindness will continue. Keep up the honesty, but don't forget the stoke too. Nectar for the soul.
Roger that, Seen. But you The Righteous Man in my book although wayne the insane will get angry that he wasn't 'chosen.' Eff the game. Sports is the entertainment biz, plain & simple. Surfing, surfing, surfing. There, does that keep the thought police from my digital doorstep...? BTW, I got ol' simod1234 or whatever his name is, on my case. He nails me with an infarction for trolling....on wayne the insane's thread of madness! The world gone mad.
