Any reviews? Happy with the board? Or not so much? As much as I want a durable firewire with thick glassing, (my last board, a CI gravy is so beat up and has so much sun damage and I've only had it for 2 years). its also de-lammed from where my foot and knee falls short of the tail pad when duckdiving.

It says anything from like a powerful knee high to head, is this true?

i feel like that's going to depend HEAVILY on the rider's ability level. for dane reynolds? sure, of course. me? not so much. more like punchy stomach to a foot or so OH for the surfer of average ability.

True, I've been surfing for 2 1/2 years now and go almost every weekend and do ESA contests in the area. I'm not too good, worse than you I bet. The biggest I've surfed is overhead on me, and I'm 5'3'' and I use my log alot. So maybe this is the wrong board?

depends on what you want from it, i suppose. you've got a log, so it's not like it's going to be your only board to ride if the waves are small. you're also a lot lighter than i am.

I'm basically just looking for an all around every day board that is shorter than my 6'1'' and has more rocker.

It's so hard to duckdive a wide, thick, 6'1'' when you only weigh 120.

    what's your current 6'1"?

i like the new flyer design for around here...shorter, higher volume, but a slightly pulled in squash tail & good bit of rocker.

Definitely... Flyer is much more of an "everyday" board than the DFR... The new Flyer is sick...
And like it's said so often here - I'd go to a local shaper and tell him what you're looking for. He can design exactly what you want, rather than trying to find a board

My current 6'1'' is a CI gravy. Made for smaller waves. Not that much rocker at all and a very wide board. Heres what CI website recommended for my weight and skill level. DFR: 56 x 18 1/4 x 2 1/16 21.7 Heres the link: http://www.cisurfboards.com/surfboards/gravy-by-rob-machado/

I would do that, but I don't have money to spend like that. Unless its the same price as a new board from a shop.

I have the 6'0... probably one of the best boards i have ever had... Its got mad tail rocker and performs great in big waves as well. Super fast and responsive. Ive been thinking about getting the neckbeard from ci next

Got a 5'11 DFR such an amazing board. But its not for everyone defiantly best for bigger sized waves. Like people are saying its got a slightly larger rocker then normal so wouldn't recommend for beginners.

uh, the gravy is NOT made for smaller waves. it's an "alternative performance" board, very similar to the hypto krypto from hayden. that's why the tail is so thinned out & pulled in. if you watch "the drifter" movie, there are several sequences of machado getting shacked in 8-10ft indo on it.

i would say that, sticking only w/ CI, the fred rubble might be a better choice. you seem very set of the dfr. can i ask why?

also, generally speaking, customs from your local shaper are going to run $100-200 LESS than buying a CI off the rack. assuming you stick w/ a plain white, sanded finish & don't add any bells & whistles.

too much rocker for my liking...I personally prefer something more neutral in the rocker department. I think if you have some skill, would be a great board...at my skill level, I tend to stay clear of alot of rocker.

To me, the new flyer looks like it has less rocker then the dfr.

Ive got a 5'10" 18.7 2.25 25.6L I think I'm 6'0 168. It definitely likes a punchy wave, gutless waist high is no fun on it. Personally I'm never getting another CI because they get beat up WAY too easily to spend 650+ on. You can breathe on the thing and it dents. Go local, they know what suits your home break.

I have owned quite a few ci boards and never had this problem...tho one board did have an area that the glass was brittle, about the size of a dime, which i fixed. However, I do generally change my boards out every year.

when you say local, are you asking for more glass/cloth? Are they using different blanks? I like the standard 4 and 4 / 4 when it comes to the glassing/cloth.

DFR has a lot of rocker. It's made for good punchy waves. If you surf those often it will work. In flatter, smaller waves you want flatter rocker. Oversimplifying but that's how it works.

CI uses a bunch of different glass houses. I've got a Semi Pro glassed by Mystery glassing and the glassing sucks. It dings easier than any board I've had with similar glass schedules (4 on bottom 4/4 top). I would definitely not buy a board glassed there again.

Usually on CIs they let the glassing house do a small laminate on bottom near tail. I would look for Guru or anyone other than Mystery. I've heard this same complaint elsewhere. CI should do better quality control on their glass houses as it reflects badly on the brand as a whole.
