Coming to a town near you....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2u5w8kvYBJ8

Cure for flatness!!!!
coming soon? idk….the concept is not grabbing me and shaking me…AND I REALLY WANT TO BUY IN. exactly how tall were those riders anyway?
The cure for flatness and fat wallets. Drop your Wallets kids, theres a new wave in town. No fear of drowning, smashing teeth and breaking bones is part of it, youll be back on your feet in no time. que trendy punk rock sounding theme music.
have you guys ever been on one of those jet water kind of "waves"? Nothing like surfing. THe skimmers tend to be pretty good at it tho...
Its not really surfing unless you paddle for it and pop up, so all the practice in the world on this thing wont make you the best surfer in the world. Riding the wave is the easy part. Wave selection, paddling power, and the nuts to throw yourself over the ledge is what makes you a good surfer. This looks fun but I don't think it will help you when you hit the ocean.
If excercise and watching film improve surfing, which I believe they do, this little contraption won't hurt. Agreed it won't help wave selection, but it looks like it will help wave riding skills. I'd rip it during a flat spell.
Definitely won't help paddling. But you can get better at surfing. If you practice a turn over and over you will get better. You can push a lot harder and if you fall jump right back on instead of paddling back out and waiting for a wave. Won't help in every aspect, but it can help in some.
I agree that it would help some but in my opinion practicing the same turn over and over on the same wave wont prepare you to do that turn on a real wave where any number of factors can cause that turn to require a different technique or amount of force. To me surfing has always been instinctual. Putting the right turn in the right place on a wave can only be learned through trial and error in the ocean. Having said all that, I would ride the shjt out of that thing if it were here.
lol so true.the only downside of this.it seems like the flow rider except u can actually sit in a barrel.i don't think its lame,it could be fun for days like today.it would be better to go to a wave pool than a regular pool. the downside of this will be that regular people who never surfed, surf this thing, then try to paddle out on an equivlant head high day(I think that's how big the pool is) and take a few sets on the head and have a heart attack.id say the ocean is a scary place if ur not a surfer.
Yup. It looks a bit small. They said something about becoming one of the best surfers in the world from riding it? That was comical. I bet the daily/hourly/yearly fees are expensive. I'd give her a whirl or two anyway, depending on the cost. They should run it off solar.
I agree that it won't help when you're in the lineup trying to ride different ocean waves but that is also why surfers usually claim their sport takes so much dedication and time in the h2o to get to an intermediate or advanced level. You can skate a ramp and try a trick 1000 times and the only variance with each rep is what YOU do. The ramp stays the same. With a decent wave pool, you've essentially taken most of the variables out of learning the basics. Good? Bad? I dunno.
It might be fun for a bit, and I suppose it serves a limited purpose; but, heck, it's artificial. Sort of like riding an Exercycle indoors instead of a real bike on the roads and trails.
Bro. What part of flat don't you get? Cold is one thing. Cold and flat, well what's you gonna do with those two things? Doesn't even make for good beer!
Prolonged flat conditions suck - a not uncommon occurrence and something all of us on this coast continually deal with. I know, I'm preaching to the choir. There have been several threads asking what one does when it's flat. What I usually do: workout and run outside, hit the pool, spend time with family and dogs, knock off items on the "honey-do" list that get neglected when I'm on the water, play the banjo, work on the cars, catch up on reading, community service (I need to get back into that). There's always something to do.
