Land was going for 500 dollars and acre in central utah last time I drove through there. Although they are sold in square mile plots, it is still quite affordable. One day I'm gonna buy some land out there just for the hell of it, maybe even set it up for protection and expand outwards from the center so it doesn't turn out like the east and west coasts

I've made good money trading pot stocks this year, and the past 3 yrs in fact. As the states legalize it, the feds will follow - - esp in an election year. Obamster & Holder already issued 'proclamations' in 2014 that have helped push weed stocks to higher highs. It's vote-pandering at its finest.

BTW, Prohibition ended for a simple reason: money. Feds needed the tax revenue in The Great Depression, so they legalized booze again & jacked up the tax rates. To this day, that's why we all pay such high sales taxes on booze. And now the feds are broke, again, the states are broke, again, & they want the massive sin taxes that CO & MI are pulling in from weed sales. Follow the money...always follow the money (not the contrails of money, the money).

MIS makes a solid point in re: land in WA - - - been looking at ranch land in eastern WA / OR, some of western ID. Remote, rural, cheap & lush. When TSHTF that's the place to be. Self-sustaining. This financial smoke & mirrors gamesmanship that our wonderful bi-partisan leaders pull on us won't sustain itself forever. House of cards falling in on itself.

Got a coupla friends going on the weed stocks. The profits have paid for surf treks, surfboards, and a whole lot more. No kiddn.

Here are some, if you have online accounts:
    MJNA
    HEMP
    SKTO
    PHOT
    MEDT
    LATF
    RFMK
    CBIS
    ERBB
    MDBX
    TRTC
    GRNH
    MNTR
    PLPL
    DEWM
    GWPH

Some of these, many of these, won't make it as viable companies. But, the ones that do....will rip.

Cool stuff, I like that move.

And, if you're trading / betting on food prices going higher, then DAG is your vehicle.

Me too, but to me it's some scary sh!t because I can't predict the future. I know people who have profited, and I've worked for people who have made millions depleting other peoples life savings.
    i.e. Ira Walker and others.

You only need an acre to produce enough vegetables, eggs, and maybe even dairy (goats), if you did it right. A chicken coop, raised beds for plants, and a small pen for a few goats would be plenty enough room to support most families' needs. You would, of course, need to supplement with things from the supermarket, but you could practically live off of it.

Those were the ones that piqued my interest...but I feel the same as you Doug about the whole thing. I know very little about the market, and was never interested enough to figure it out.

Can't the savvy and established brokers manipulate the ganj stocks too? Those cats are some conniving mutha f~ckas'. The good ones are always a step ahead of the public.

Manipulation has been going on forever. It's worse now due to the massive, beyond-fast trading computers in use. No way is the SEC even close to keeping up with it. That Geo Carlin gig that MIS refers to is one of my all-time favorites, btw.

Most of the pot stocks aren't gonna make it. Some will. As in any start up time-frame. Look at all the car companies that went belly-up in the great rush to produce the new technology, aka the automobile, early last century. Same with booze companies after Prohibition. Same with firms that tried to make a buck in the radio era last century, before tv. And so on.

Trick is to be positioned properly (like on a wave); use your knowledge, gut instinct, internal fortitude & make the decision to go for it. Or not. Just like surfing.

My view on the weed stocks is simple: this stuff is going to be legalized in our time, through a combo platter of fed & state greed (for sin taxes), a citizenry that has proven once again that morality can never be legislated and a population that has made it clear what they want in the marketplace.

Weed will be legalized in our time. It will only happen once. And the pages of that saga are turning right now.

    My 2 centacos, sports fans.

Disclosure: spent 5 yrs as a commodities trader in NY & Malibu; worked with Bruce Kovner, Paul Tudor Jones & spent 2 yrs learning from Michael P. Marcus. I have a healthy respect for Mister Market (he is never wrong) but he doesn't intimidate me. And, so far so good. Knock on wood!

That's a helluva resume. Can't put a price on an education from those guys.Reading New Market Wizards got me hooked on the markets. If there isn't a Marijane ETF I'm sure there will be one soon. Sounds like a good long term play since the cat's out of the bag and she ain't going back in.

It was one helluva ride. Traded everything known to man. Stress city was the deal, though. Made a lot. And blew every dime of it. And you're right: those guys, PTJ & Kovner & MPM, are trading geniuses. Which is why they're in that book you noted. :D (Although I think MPM & Kovner are in the original tome, 'Market Wizards' - - been a long time since I saw that book.)

Try MNTR if you want to spread your weed risk around a bit. Had a nice day today: +36%. The volatility of these particular stocks borders on crazy, mostly because of the pros manipulating them, so if one doesn't care for roller coaster rides stay out of the amusement park.

There will surely be other funds 'cropping up' as well.
