Im thinking about taking a trip with my wife to Puerto Rico in May and have never been. I have looked at a lot of the previous threads and have gotten some good info but I need to find some breaks that are longboard friendly and tamer for the wife. Any ideas? Thanks
My absolute favorite is Surfer's Beach in Aguadilla. Not as crowded as Rincon, very consistent, and wife-friendly (not just because it's mellow but also because the spot is pretty scenic). The waves can range in size there, but they're always forgiving (i.e., not too hollow and powerful). Just make sure you watch where people get in and out to find the keyhole in the reef. And just in case, don't get off the board until the last possible moment (without breaking your fins, obviously). It's urchin city. But so are most spots in PR.
beginner friendly beach playa jobos is good for beginners. its good for intermediates. its good for experts. jobos rox.
To me north like arecibo in (hollows)͵or isabela playa (jobos) got good waist to chest high waves.Just be careful with the reef on (HOLLOWS) IT GET'S REAL SHALLOW.
My wife really enjoys Sandy Beach, safe getting in and out of the water, not too heavy of a wave if it's HH and under, not crowded normally (at least the two times we've been) and there is a great beach bar / restaurant called Tamboo right there that you can get a bite to eat and drink afterwards and can watch the ocean and others surf. There is a left point break off the rocks out front that can barrel on a good swell, but just down the beach is mostly sand bottom, with a little bit of rock / reef, but nothing serious. Marias is a mellow wave if it's small, but if it gets HH or bigger it can get heavy, and it's not as easy getting in and out of like it is at Sandy Beach, but if you watch where the locals get in / out you should be ok.
May is pretty much out of season for PR. Actually the whole winter sucks there this year Expect flatness in May
