THEY'RE BACK.After the gulf oil spill many plans were shelved; here they come again.
the u.s. dpt. INTERIOR yesterday recommended seismic surveys can proceed which
is a huge - and loud - and potentially deadly (to marine mammals) step. The coast could
be clogged w/them in as little as a decade. This info from todays' NYTimes.

Really a bummer. We're never going to seek alternative energy sources, on a grand scale at least, until it's too late. Just too much money involved.

Wooden shoe conspiracy. Needs to happen.

    crude is WORSE than vaseline...

one of the real kickers in this whole issue is that the oil is sold on the open market to
the highest bidder which won't be us because we are an energy PRODUCER as such don't
pay the highest price. (i hope not) but could this mean WE get slimed in order to power-up
(whoever)…!!!!!!!!! huh???? yes i know its about $$$$$$$$……!!!!!????####$$$%%%^^@@!

Humanity will not be happy until it strips this earth down to a bare rock, and fracks it into rubble.

If big oil wants it, it'll happen. Look at the keystone pipeline. Koch bros Canadian company is pushing hard. They went into Nebraska and changed the laws to give eminent domain powers to them. Part of the "deal" is that the land owner will be responsible for any damages done. Like a spill. The company also noted that there will be 1% undetectable leaks in the line. The repugnitards are pushing hard, saying "Jobs!" All the jobs are temp.

There's always a chance for a silver lining. Some have proposed specific carve-outs for offshore wind energy as a trade for offshore drilling rights. $$$$ does indeed drive the world and oil&gas co's will always drill and get the approval to drill. If they can support a nascent offshore wind industry that is cash starved then it could be an overall win but let's face it, it's inevitable. Our insatiable appetite for liquid fuels is not going anywhere soon.

    Here they come again

To bad you overlooked the first paragraph of the article.

By Michael Wines, NYT News Service | 28 Feb, 2014, 09.25PM IST
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The US interior department opened the door on Thursday to the first searches in decades for oil and gas off the Atlantic coast, recommending that undersea seismic surveys proceed albeit with a host of safeguards to shield marine life from much of their impact. "
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Creating new jobs and investment is what our economy needs.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The American Petroleum Institute called the recommendation a critical step toward bolstering the nation's energy security, predicting that oil and gas production in the region could create 280,000 new jobs and generate $195 billion in private investment.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe the environmentalists are over stating the danger.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"But while the assessment released Thursday repeats those estimates, it also largely dismisses them, stating that they employ multiple worst-case scenarios and ignore measures by humans and the mammals themselves to avoid harm."

"Many marine scientists say the estimates of death and injury are at best seriously inflated."
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I personally have viewed whales and scuba dive within 500 yards of active oil exploration in California.

Please try to take a honest and balanced approach to this important issue.

F that I don't need that crap off my coast. keep that in the west and gulf. We are the clean coast minus new jersey. When I paddle out the last thing I want to see is a huge rig on the horizon it's ruins the natural beauty of the ocean and if it where to leak the exosystem would be destroyed and I'd have to move.

Not a matter of IF there is a leak, just a matter of WHEN. Its happened time and time before, and it will happen again.

It is not inevitable and is not a done deal. The registered voters of Florida have pressured the politicians down here to be anti drilling because they will get voted out if they are not. Enough stakeholders (waterfront resorts, real estate interests, tourism boards, marine industry such as yachting, boat sales, fishing charters, and anglers, surfers, swimmers, beachgoers, and businesses dependent on clean beaches) if organized and pissed can keep these running dogs at bay. It is not easy. Alliances have to be formed for the long haul. Surfrider, Audubon, Sierra Club, Save the Bay, etc are already established and need to be on alert and activated to counter these greedy bloodsuckers.

Why don't you ask all those folks on the Florida Panhandle how they feel? Ask them about the great job BP did mitigating the disaster caused by their negligence and greed. "Thank you sir, may I have another?" is what you and your deluded or paid off scientists hear, but I hear "Go F**K OFF!"
