Me and friend have wanted to go on a trip for the longest time. only time he can go on this trip will be in september. where would be a good place to travel with great waves in central america. Have considered Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama. out of these three what would be the most consistent shoulder to head high surf out of these three
stay away from Panama its only worth it if the waves are macking and you are there for a long time and can explore. I surfed a wave called P-land there and it was a mushy soft sectiony wave that looked nothing like it was advertised as . I would go for Nicaragua the place has never let me down. All kinds of different set-ups and there was always swell somewhere.
Costa Rica. I believe September is the start of the rainy season in Nicaragua. Not positive? During the rainy season there, I here its almost impossible to travel due to impassible roads (if thats what you want to call them)..
isn't the rainy season for costa rica during the same time in september also. Would central america be a bad idea at this time. only been on two trips, one to puerto rico this winter and one was to costa rica in august of 08
i think you guys have it backwards. I believe april-may is start of rainy season in central america. September might be right towards the end of it.
sept-oct is tail end, but when it is most intense, id score either obx or west coast if I had sept off
rainy season isn't as big a deal in CR these days. A lot more of the roads are paved and hence passable even in the rain. Can't speak to Nica or Panama from personal experience. Rainy season starts in May in CR and goes through summer. September is towards the end of it.
right on i think i might try to talk my friend into moving the trip up somehow, I would be down to surf box but the problem is i already do only a hour away from their so try to surf there almost every weekend if theres swell in the water.
It doesn't rain all day, every day, even during the rainy season in CR. It rains almost daily, but almost always in the afternoon. Usually it's a hard rain for a short duration, then sunny again, especially in the areas you want to go to. The surf is really good then, too.
ya i went in may a handfull of years back, it only rained right at sunset, most of the night, but like clock work when the sun would go down the rain started. No biggy during the day. And the surf was head high+ for the whole 10 days i was there. Was in el salvador in august and hardly rained much at all. There was one good storm that came thru, and a couple nights we got some good rain, but once again nothing during the day. Go anytime, central america is fun. Surf trips really are more about the journey than the destination...
i agree with you completely on the journey part, its just my trip this winter to puerto rico, i felt like i could of scored it so much better so thats why I want to find the best location at the right time
