Wow!!! A subculture of people who battle over who has the best waves Rhode Island or New Jersey. R.I. averages 1-2 solid chest+ swells a month. Not really that impressive. This means all of you Jersey boys should stay in the Ocean City-Belmar-Manasquan Sand Bar... wow im seeing a lot of new names on here. first off,im from nj,or America,or Ukraine,or Russia,maybe even china,but I lived in jersey for the past 25 years.i know every spot,and every surfer worth knowing.nj is not cool,its not epic,it sucks and I cant wait to move out of here.im not being sarcastic either,i really do hate nj.I think I already stated this. this here is for the bayhead feinds,and all the dumb surfers who think bayhead is the nj pipeline.bayhead is no different from sandy hook,or long branch,or ocmd,or obx.well actualy obx is better.i was in bayhead when it was cool.I know real locals from bayhead,not all the pointers who show up every swell.bayhead is just another sandbar,its the people who surf it that give bayhead the credit.if sam hammer and everyone else showed up to sandy hook,everyone would flock to sandy hook. and to understand sam hammer.sam is not the typical surfer from jersey.i don't know how old he is,but I remember seeing footage of him when I started surfing in 98.sam has been everywhere,and surfed every swell we had in the last 20 years.he makes the waves look better than they actually are.he is our Kelly slater,or maybe that's randazzo.I seen sam paddle into 25 foot barrels in Puerto Escondido,i seen him in Tahiti and pipe.he is as good as he is because he didn't spend his whole life surfing jersey.he is good because he surfed everywhere else.u see people like Kelly slater,the hobgoods,the lopez brothers,they didn't get where they are today surfing crappy eastcoast waves and the occasional hurricane swells.they are who they are by spending years in cali,bali,Hawaii,etc.imo jersey is overated.that's why we have jersey photogs in Hawaii right now. to me a wave is a wave.i don't care if its warm or cold,big or small,onshore or offshore.i don't care if im sponging,supin,bodysurfin.everytime I paddle out I say in my head I am leaving civilization.no people where I go.that's why I hate crowds.i paddle out to get away from that crap.i am not a people person,i am an animal person.I could care less if some random person gets hurt or killed,i carre more for the dead deer in the road.when I was a young teen,when the world was cool,i remember seeing one of my cats dead in the road with his eyes popped out of his head.i said im going to wait on the side with a shotgun and the next person that purposely swerves to try to kill an animal is getting a slug to the back windsheld.then I got older,911 happened,and no more shooting windshields. and risurfer,do u live near ruggles.I don't know where it is,but I know its surrounded by mansions and has the biggest waves the eastcoast can get.next time we get a superstorm swell im coming to ur town for ruggles.the jersians can have their bayheads
one more reason I hate jersey beaches. beach replenishment.to the newbees that don't know what that is,imagine ur a skater skating a pool.then u go home one day,and the next,the people u voted for and pay taxes to just decided to fill that pool up with cement to make the rich people who pay no taxes more happy. jersey can be a lot better than it is if they decided to leave the beaches alone.u could build a 200 ft seawall and itll still flood.adding sand to the beaches to make rich people feel safer that their house wont get flooded.well they did the replinsishment,and parts of ocean ave still get flooded after a storm.adding sand definitely helps protect homes tho,I wont deny that because there will be no waves to flood the houses.the storm we had after bill in 09,it was a tropical storm,dont remember the name.i went to my regular spot which is elevated above the beach.the water was crashing up against the wall,i had to jump off the wall into the water,which was cool,just to get out.now this same spot,u can stand at the wall and u cant even see the water because they pumped so much sand on. to be honest I guess I don't hate nj,I just hate people from joysey.the beaches were a lot cooler when there wasn't 40 people out at the same spot.after sandy,nj was the best it ever was,and I say that with confidence.i witnessed and surfed barrels longer than desert point,longer than kirra on the best day.it was after they ruined these epic sandbars that I started to hate nj.if I can find this video on my computer I will figure out a way to post it for u nonbelievers.im talking wave after wave after wave rolling in like its a point break and barreling outside the jettys past 4 phuckin jetties!!!!im sure some of u witnessed this last year.i got video of a set of waves,maybe late December,early jan where the spot I was out has a jetty every 200 yards,and the waves broke way outside the jettys and peeled for a half mile

My IQ goes down after reading your posts. Ruggles gets good a few times a year when there are big swells. Consistency and size, jersey hands down. I would love to see you surf. Like PJB said, let's just keep track of the forecast for the least year. I think this winter has been great in NJ. I"m sure RI had some days but Jersey has a really open swell window. We are talking NJ and RI, not Hawaii or Cali. Obviously they have better waves. If you surf 3 epic swells a year, than RI is for you but I dont think you would really improve all surfing 3 times a year.
Since I'm a grom, anywhere waist high and bigger and clean is epic. Also because I can't surf all the time.
I'm not worried about my spots being blew up, njers will never find our spots. They're just used to driving down the road to surf.

bayhead is one of the best best spots simply because there sand bars are very close to shore . thats why the barrels there are so god damn huge. lets all go to RI know and surf so this broski has people to watch when he can't get out on a big day at one of his secret point breaks
