Cocoa Beach has better waves on the reg than Jerzy or Rhodie. Way more surf culture too. You got Ron Jons, which is open 24/7 . The friggen owner fled from NJ cause he was tired of the cold and the Mob. Cocoa Beach, or "Cocoloco" as the locals say, is total core. Surfable 360 days a year (if you have a 13' shred sled it helps for those summer lulls). The Cocoa Beach Pier "The Pier" as the locals call it, is the mecca of fine dining, fashion and party music. Snookie ran away from home at 12 just to hang out. Who else can say they hosted a famous TV show (I Dream of Jeanie - Barbara Eden was sooo hot in those PJs)? Nothin like being hung over from a late evening shopping fest at Ron Jons, then paddling out at The Pier during a shuttle launch - a religious experience I tell ya, especially if it lifts off early am cause the colors are so cool. The surf contests, no...SURFFESTS...are a display in all that is pure and good about East Coast surf culture. You don't see any of that at Ruggles or Pt.J or Sandy Hook ar Belmar, do ya? And we got friendly locals who are literally giving away free surfboards on the beach. See that in Jerzy? Doubtful. Maybe a few guys selling second hand boards on the cheap out of the back of their truck cause it just fell off the rack and got dinged, but no actual free surfboard giveaways. And Cocoa Beach welcomes all the tired, homeless, unwashed surfers from all over the Dirty Souf, and even Dirty Jerzy. I am not from Cocoa Beach, and I haven't surfed it in years, but I am getting awfully riled up reading all this stuff about how great it is up north, so I felt I had to get this off my chest so I don't snap the next time I paddle out in chest high epic surf and someone almost gets in my way.

If a post is longer than a few sentences, I don't read it. All points should be made in 50 words or less.

Who has time for all this writing on here? I think it's time for some of you to re-assess.

in my opinion, long island is the hotspot not nj.iv been to the beach in jersey on a flat day,and went to li the same day and there was empty 3 foot peelers, inside sandbars, outside sandbars.u know when u see footage of a good swell in obx,u see waves breaking way further out.its the same in ny.ny can also hold size,i seen plenty of triple overhead barrels ridden in li.im not talking about rockaway or lb,im talking smiths point and up.

and for whoever wanted to see me surf, check out surflines swell stories for every swell dating back to 07,i believe that's as far as it goes.i got a few shots on there every other swell from people taking pictures I didn't know exist.im not one to brag about anything, but a pic of a guy surfing jersey isn't all that cool.just another day at the beach.

theres plenty of surfers out there that u never heard of and never will hear of,but they rip harder than parko or slater.just because one isn't sponsored doesnt mean squat.oh john jons the next ke11y,yea I don't think so.u think when hes out at pipe, guys like Jamie or wardo or Kelly are watchin him hoping to learn a few things.

my question is if u been surfing for 5 years, and u come across someone whos been surfing for 30 years, whos better?who cares?what difference does it make who rips harder,we are not on thee world tour.

I could name 30 former pro surfers that most of u never even heard of and would talk shyt about them til u see footage.

who surfs better?il quote bruce irons on this one."whos car is nicer?" whos house is bigger?

when the irons bros first surfaced all the surf companies wanted it to seem like a rivalry between the 2 to sell merchandise.bruce irons doesnt make it past the 1st round as a wildcard, does that make him a kook?thats why bruce left the tour, hes not surfing so u can sell tshirts and boardshorts.every kids dream nowadays is to get sponsored.well welcome to the real world.if ur not Hawaiian, californian,or Australian, nobody gives a phuck about you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What if momjohn ran away to Cocoa Beach? And she found Jesus? Would JJF be giving away free surfboards in a van? Would he be the next CJ or Damien Hobgood? She never would have stayed in NJ, but I can see her hanging out at The Pier making east coast surf babies.

Cocoa Beach doesn't even have the best waves in Florida.

Pretty sure his post was laced with sarcasm haha, although it does have some of the best waves on occasion, just depends what PART of Cocoa we're talking, some spots are better than others

I was going to stay out of this but I have to chime in. Shark hunter, you say you can't be serious about surfing in the east coast because of the waves. We should move you say. You also say surfing is about having fun.

Here's the problem I have with this. Surfing is not about surfing the biggest waves. For some maybe, but most, no. People on the east coast who are serious about surfing, are serious about it because of the fun. No because of the size of waves. Your contradicting yourself. If you were a serious body boarder or whatever you'd be out in the winter. Not to be "core" but because you love to be out there. And I'm sure you'll say you do love being out there and to that I reply, clearly not as much as others do. And that's fine not a problem. But let's be real, saying you can't be serious about surfing on the east coast is ridiculous. I'm stunned no one else commented on this.

Risurfer you seem like a good kid and I love how excited you are about surfing, I think you got the point about spot naming so all is good. But I would take that advice given by zagaffer I think it was. Posting stuff that will help people recognize you in the water isn't a good idea. I don't say this to sound "core", I say this because some people are wack jobs

It's the type of "seriousness". I was talking about this ego/core crap that I see on here. Not someone stoked to get on it and can't wait all winter to not get at it. Nothing wrong with that at all. This was a discussion of localism/ego ect.
Actually I was having an argument with someone who said that it's NOT about having fun, but totally about rep/ego. Read the entire thread carefully. And my point is if you're that serious/addicted to surfing you'd move to the west instead of freezing your ass off for a swell a few times a month if you're lucky. And even someone in the west who doesn't understand what surfing truly is about(fun/stoke) and is some kind of raging lunatic is also a douche. So acting like you're more core/deserve waves more than me because you surf in the winter, yet live in place that is flat most of the time is absurd. Maybe I just hate the cold. You could easily say the person who moves out west is core and you as a winter surfer are not since he surfs head high waves 5 days a week during the winter and you're lucky if you get it 3 times a month. Truly dedicated person would move. If you're that foaming at the mouth to get at it, what the hell are you doing here? Oh yeah, family/job ect. I understand that. It's my situation, but let's not play games here and keep it real. Listen, I know I'm going to get **** on for telling the truth. Rhody is my playground and I love it there when it's firing, but I don't have this huge ego about being "core" and all this other nonsense of localism/surf rage.

Waves and the serenity/enjoyment of the ocean. A different view than the a-hole aggro localism surfer type.

Just to be clear, no issue with someone who and surfs in winter for fun because he can't wait till summer. Big issue with aggro/ego/core jackass who thinks he's hot **** because he surfs in the winter.

    It's the mentality.

Well..........you kinda can. You would just have to travel a hell of a a lot and look for swells. Or just be like those locals and stay at home all winter shaping your own boards and waiting for big swells.

Then don't click on the thread, genius.

Dude, really, enough of the clever internet PHOTO/SAYINGS. I mean, like, really, dude?

I guess in the minds of some, I should start complaining about you because I don't like these corny-arse internet "picture/sayings." Oh oh, I don't like something, so, considering the world's about me, I better start telling internet moderators about it.

Some of you clowns act like you are forced by unseen powers to view threads. If it's so painful why come on here?

Yo, what's up NJsurfer42, you being a good citizen today? Hey, how come you are always selling fins?

Oh Shark Hunter, if you want I will help you learn what surfing is all about.

    Fun ?

Ha, you poor naive sob, surfing's not about fun. It hasn't been since the 1950's.

Ok, you'll probably botch this but:

    1. One guy paddles out at a deserted January jetty. He surfs by himself in 2-3' semi-choppy waves.

    2. The next guy drives around on a firing head high day in late August. He has his board strapped to his roof, and has Quiksilver boardies on and a local surf shop T-shirt. He has Reef flops and $300 sunglasses. This guy pulls-up to every hyped spot in a twenty mile radius. He hangs out at the look out spot at every spot. His hair is perfect. His countenance serious. He looks down on obvious novices. It's not certain whether he actually paddled-out that day.

So, who is the more core surfer?

Wrong, it's the second guy. The guy with the perfect hair.

Ahh, you'll learn Shark Hunter, you'll learn.
