Note to any retail business owners:

When you buy enough flour and cheese to make 30,000 pies and only report selling 15,000, the IRS may want to have a few words with you. Especially when 99% of your revenue is from credit card purchases.

In this heavy-handed tax destoryer mode that is America today, those people are effed for life - - they may as well sell it all & move to Thailand.

BTW, whenever you go into a restaurant (Chinese restaurants notorious for this) & they ring you up but the till is open or it reads '000.00' or 'no sale' on the cash register....? They're collecting the retail sales taxes you pay & pocketing the money, even on credit card transactions, and not submitting those funds to the guvmint.

The other one is the well-known sign 'if you don't get a receipt with your purchase call this number for a free whatever' or 'if you don't get a receipt with your purchase you automatically get a free whatzit.'

The presence of these signs mean that the owner is getting picked by his employees & he's trying to stop the in-house stealing.

Just throwing info out there apropos of not much except skimming the till.

They've got a good pie! Obviously not the sharpest tools in the shed though.

Perhaps I missed it, but can someone tell me why the site has such a hard-on for SJB/PJB? I find him very entertaining and think he's an asset to the forum.

Agreed. He possesses a unique outlook on things. I think even the people he had disagreements with liked him or at least enjoyed going rounds with him.

    Unfurl a banner for SJB/PJB!

Yeah, it happens all over. My old restaurant company used to run stings on bars for the owners. It is amazing how many bartenders steal. Its so easy. We setup one guy to order the drink, he drops the cash plus tip on the bar and walks out... another spotter watches and within 2-3 minutes, that bartender walks right over and drops the whole amount of cash in the tip jar... Its crazy how often it happens. In buffet situations, server steal constantly, thats why we ran check audits on reprints on tickets and stuff...

Pay attention next time you guys are out drinking. A lof of bars include the sales tax in the drink price, so the bartenders will say, that will be $3.00 cause the tax is already absorbed. But what what they do next time they pay cash... Look at their POS screen. Are they just hitting the "Open Drawer" button and putting the cash in the register, keeping track of how much extra cash they put in and will take it all out when it slows down, or do you see them go to a speed screen, punch in an item and cash it out....

Thats why I had a HD camera zoomed in on my bar bank and tip jar and about 16 other infrared HD nightvision cameras.... Its a sad state of affairs. I have had "somewhat" family members skimming off the sales before. Had to let them go...

Not everyone is crooked, but you are a stupid business owner if you aren't at least floating sales a little above your credit card business. There are numerous ways to "cook the books" but when you are skimming a million off the top, come on people.

But as far as any old cash register, most of them don't even save sales data. Those little mom and pop place can do anything they want with cash sales. You CC processes are really the only valid data, and then again, you can make it looks like your food purchases and all kinds of other stuff are so high that you are in the red all the time and they avoid the taxes.

Crazy world we live in. Not to single out the restaurant employees but that is what I have been doing for years and Ive seen it all. The floating drinks. We catch people all the time splitting cokes and teas and coffees off of cashed checks and building new tables off of it. 5 bucks here, 10 bucks there. Little to they know that we can run audits on anything and everything that ever goes through those systems...

The classic old school bartenders would even sneak in their own bottles of Jack Daniels and stuff so when we weighed the bottle and ran the breakage audits each day the booze would look correct. Seen it all man.

Seen the kitchen workers sneak packs of steaks into the trash then have their girlfriends go get it out of the dumpsters.... Caught a guy with crab legs in his pants.... We actually installed cameras in the FREEZER!

So the government will drive everyone to honesty, or drive everyone to store cash once again under mattresses.
Unrelated, but the flash trading thing is ok as long as they pay taxes on the profits...

zaGaffer, that thread link proves it. He's a classic and helped shape this thing for a long while.

So what was said by any one of the numerous monikers that was so damned offensive or threatening it warranted an IP ban?
