dark and light at the same time, we get some great waves then a tree hits your car. go on a surf trip catch a good wave, then get skunked the whole time after that. bang that brunette at the bar with a tramp stamp and a sleeve and get herpes. go buy some fried chicken and its soft. then there's that special place where every thing goes away ; the green room. the world is gone and we have our freedom. right now boys we are living in a dying art. the more mechanized surfing/the world become the more freedom we will lose. im scared of the future of surfing as well as yall should be, imagine what people in the 60s thought today would be like. now imagine 40 years from now... surfing in 2054..i will still be riding my single fin 9,4. i want yall to predict some advancements, I.E, floating surf boards (like those tables things) i know fins and aerodynamics are going to be a huge factor. who knows what new material surf board will be made off?

"....im scared of the future of surfing as well as yall should be, imagine what people in the 60s thought today would be like. now imagine 40 years from now... " The growth of virtual surfing. Just like "virtual" everything else and the resulting decrease, then eventual elimination of the skill, artistry, and risk involved in doing many activities. All done in the safety of one's living room or at the keyboard. And the thing is, people will likely still consider themselves experts. I think we're seeing this already.
The south would rise again, but it's becoming the North. why are there surfzones? yanks and other rule loving "progressive" types moving down and changing our way of life. why are there so many beaches now that are against even having your dog on the beach? same as above.. why one beach renourishment project after the other? same as above . why are our taxes going up? samve as above. NJ-ites moved away from their high tax home states to move down south where taxes are low. but when they move down nothing is quite like they want it, so they lobby their new state and local govts to "get more progressive" and lo and behold in a few years everywhere is like NJ. high tax, many rules, no open space...
we all think/worry about the future, but I think a lil REality check is in order... the future is not gonna be about "the new", it is all gonna be about using and reusing. ha, and here we go We live in a nation that runs on oil. We assumed the role of world super power in the late 40s at about the same time as we were the world's major oil EXPORTER. This is not a coincidence! We had gobs of the stuff. and the world wanted it. it looked like we'd never run out, So the planners of the post war economy designed an economic system that would run well on really cheap oil. ffwd a wee bit... US oil production peaked in the 70s... then we slowly started importing more.. FFWD to now...our economy can not function on oil that trades over $80-100/barrel. And the petrodollar system is collapsing so countries that used to have to own US Dollars in order to buy oil to run their economies, now can just as easily trade directly with any oil exporting country that's not in OPEC. surprise!! the major one that falls into that category is Russia. So China is now dealing directly with Russia in rubles for oil and our currency is dying a slow death because of the lack of demand worldwide for dollars. That's why there is no recovery, that's why there will be no recovery. China's already moving into a hegemonic role and Russia will be their supply for growth. China will continue to have a real economy based on making value-added products and their new market will be Russia (now the world's 5th largest economy!!) among other markets that are able to shake US involvement in their internal affairs. meanwhile We will try to keep our economy going with money printing and war making. That can't last forever. It prob won't last into Hillary's first year in office. soooo.... I foresee that we're gonna have to eventually repurpose most of the detritus of modern civilization into other things...like the proverbial beating of swords into ploughshares, we will transform our F-15's and alot of suburbia into the coolest new ideas ever.... surfboards will be a part of this new world but they just may be made out of re-used airplane wings. I for one welcome the opportunity to pitch in and see what things of beauty can be made out of all this plastic ugly crap we call modernity
opec is useless. price of oil is pretty much controlled by the saudis. they own 33% of all oil we buy. everybody else in opec argues too much to do anything.
lets see the reaction that post gets BBG, seems on point to me but people dont like change, let alone look ahead and try and make plans
btw this is not a real person typing this...or that above...I'm really a best-selling author, who will remain anonymous, that just happens to be living on a house boat in Southport at the moment with my lesbian lover of these last 4 years. So based on the above comment, does the character I'm working on sound tin-foil hat wearing nutjob convincing enough? Should I throw in some stuff about The rothschilds? any advice you have would be great! thanks!
Blaster; In my eyes, surfing is one of the only things in the past 50 years that hasn't changed that much. New materials, new fin setups, but same ideas. A lot of the same waves... A lot of surfers aren't into the jet skis and technology, so I would think that aside from better materials, probably more eco friendly, surfing will be relatively similar.... We also praise our roots. We also look at our past to build our future as surfers... The only thing I see 50 years from now are: More wave parks, more mechanical barrels.. Instant gratification. Ways that you can pay for your fix, surf a perfect wave at a cost, then go home... I could see them even installing something in the ocean to help make waves etc at certain spots. Put up strong netting, eliminating shark attacks in certain places... I think recreation will consider to change, and people will be better protected... But surfing will still be surfing.
