I just have to ask since y'all surf too... About 2 months ago, I was out surfing. The wave looked like it was going to close out. I made the obvious decision to get out of the wave...but the lip smacked me square in the nuts. Yes is hurt and badly. It hurt for days. Then I started to freak out, went to the doctors and had it checked out. Heck, they even gave them an ultrasound in addition to the examination. I was given an antibiotic and told to keep them well supported. It has hurt since then and I even got a second opinion. I hate bring this up, but it seems like one sits higher than the other. Apparently everything is cool, but I am freaking out becasue I have been surfing a lot and this winter and the wetsuits have to be placing additional stress on that region of my body. Has anyone else had this problem? Feel free to PM me. Whatever I am just curious becasue I read about higher rates of testicular cancer caused by the wearing of wetsuits. thoughts please??? Thanks!
The same thing is said about wearing "tighty whities", in the sense of cancer i am sure you have nothing to worry about from your wetsuit. I think the squeezing only makes you sterile. But thats just urban legend to. Maybe you are just a lil paranoid bout your nuts.
One always hangs lower. I'm fairly certain that it is just evolution at its finest (they take up less room that way allowing us to run faster and hunt prey more effectively). As far as wetsuits causing cancer, that's a ridiculous claim. Tighty whities, however, definitely cause ball cancer.
I'm in my 20s and hell yeah I'm paranoid! I just dont want to have regrets. I will say this though, after the freak out I started wearing briefs for support. Good to know right? Here's what could help y'all...I started to wear them surfing and of course low and behold I find that I'm warmer. Those cold winter days when putting on the wetsuit for another round of surfing can be a shocker on that part of the body. That helps plus if wearing a hooded vest for warmth the elastic band holds the vest in place so it doesn't fold up on you and makes that change easy to do with no towel. I feel a bit more protected too
Btw thanks for the input. Thanks to this thread, my identity may soon be known... I just want to surf survive and have the option of having a copy of myself exist in the future
Warmer? I'm surprised. You must have found a pair made of wool. Is Patagonia making Merino Wool briefs now?
We're bordering on the realm of TMI, but I'll contribute my 2 centavos. Hopefully, wti won't get excited reading this thread. I always wear the Elephant surf compression trunks under my boards or wetsuit. Not cheap, $60 but one of the few items out there that's well worth it. http://elephantsurf.com/products/the-trunks Under my boards, the compression shorts keep everything where it's supposed to be. No inadvertent nicking or big hits to my equipment. Also, the legs of the compression shorts are long enough to eliminate the saltwater-board chafe I sometimes get on my thighs from days in a row of transitioning from sitting to paddling in a hurry. Under my wetsuit, I wear them 'cause I'm lazy: I just don't like doing the parking lot towel dance in a 20 knot wind at AI when it's 30 degrees out, struggling to get my wetsuit off quickly when I'm already cold without displaying the goods. I can strip out of the bulky suit faster when I wear the compression shorts.
copying fidelity is low in human reproduction, you will have 50% reduction in quality after the process as you genes will be diluted with an egg-bearers
Thanks for the input yank. I can't believe I made this thread, but I'm more surprised one just like this doesn't already exist taking into account all of the other threads I see on here.
More so from having a layer to reduce the immediate effects of cold water and air on the said region I have used wool socks quite a bit this year. Those things help
Cool. It's small stuff, no pun intended, but it's actually important stuff; similar to the ear plugs thread. Man, that ear surgery drilling from surfer's ear is seriously no joke yet most docs have no clue as to what it is or how to prevent it. (I did sign up for the Aussie Surfer's Ear plugs on Kickstarter) Somebody needs to invent a surf lid for head, ears, back of neck that doesn't make us look like goobers. Anyways, I never surf without compression shorts anymore.
Got to support the ol' boys. or else, when you get older, they'll get entangled in your shoe laces. Boy howdy that hurts. or so I've been told. Mine are always safe in the wife's purse.
I do the same for the same reasons but I use jammers like these: https://www.swimoutlet.com/mens-swim-jammers-c9262/ Keeps the junk in place and lessens the chafing. I can shower and get out of my wetsuit at the beach without having to do the towel dance. They are also good in the event of a wardrobe malfunction in the water. Went body surfing one time and forgot to tighten the drawsting on my trunks. Caught my first wave and quickly found my trunks down around my knees. Towel dance without the towel!
Haha nice. Honestly I scored the mesh ones that Haynes and under armor make. They're more in my budget at 10 bucks. If you wet yourself out there at least they filter
I didn't take the time to read this whole thread but I was just in the hospital for something similar last week. Here's my story. First of all my right nut always hung lower, and I didn't get smashed in the nuts at all. So Tuesday I wake up and my right nut feels like it's hanging weird. No pain though. After working all day I did have a dull pain, and I was just uncomfortable. It felt like I had no sack and my nut was hanging around my knee with no sack supporting it. Gross I know sorry. So through to Friday much of the same. Started getting worried. Sat night felt a sharp pain and got scared and went to the ER. After a sonogram I was told I have a verocele (spelling isn't right). Basically the veins in my sack have a faulty valve allowing blood to flow backwards and pool in the vein (that's not supposed to happen). So I was told to wear supportive underwear and that it usually fixes it's self. After a week of laying around and following doctors orders I feel better. Cancer was ruled out from the sonogram. I was told that what probably happened was my nuts twisted (testicular torsion) but then twisted back causing the problem in the vein. I'm no doc so I don't know. They asked me if I got hit in the nuts like you, so our story's are very similar. I am also in my 20s, I was freaking out but it turned out being something very minor. If you got any questions pm me.
+1 Got a pair from Quicksilver that work really well for me, game changer really. No rash / chafe, no worries changing in the parking lot, and a little extra warmth for the beans and franks.
