sorry for the foxnews article. - http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/0...-slum-after-shooting-death-elderly-woman-car/
sounds like a good time for zosea/the asp to scout for alternative venues...the rio event sucks anyway.
best to have independent verification of fox news content; put another way 'has anybody else picked up on this?'
To act as if rio wasn't dangerous to begin with is ludacris,. Regardless of what the news is reporting, having events there now is just as bad as it was last decade. The panic people seek is outrageous. OMG there is going to be a terrorist attack at the olympics, There are going to be people getting murdered at the world cup... Get with it pussies, being alive is dangerous.
“Why this cult of wilderness?… because we like the taste of freedom; because we like the smell of danger.”
what mayhem? regardless if there's a deep end for Putin to dive into, the US and the EU filled the pool up with piss and stale vinegar
Thanks man. Been on an Abbey kick since I was fortunate enough to stumble upon his work, I too like to see him quoted...hopefully I can turn a few other folks on to his stuff.
Not to get into international politics, but I have been disturbed for years since I heard that the World Cup was going to Rio. I understand that they are a huge component to international soccer and its history, but in certain socio-economic climates, the world shot not reward an area that has so many human rights issues, violence, drugs etc. It just seemed crazy to take one of the most dangerous cities in the world, second only to probably mexico city and giving them the world cup. I mean, they have militarized that city for the past 4 years basically trying to control the people until the smoke clears and the summer ends. Terrible place for the World Cup. Crappy waves for an ASP event. Maybe it's time to pack up and stop contributing to their economy when they turn around and treat their people so poorly and rather than solving the issues there, they just keep everyone in a cage until the world leaves... And how are you going to protect the international soccer crowds when you can't handle taking care of your own people. I always remember that part of the surf video Hit and Run when Shane Dorian talks about how he was robbed at gun point on the beach in Brazil by a 12 year old and how they got his board and explained that he knew without a doubt, this kid would have blown his brains out without thinking twice. Rio has always been a crooked place. Bullets literally rain down from the sky. Its an open air drug market. Yeah, let's have the next World Cup there. And you know what? Lets have the next one in Qatar. I would LOVE to see the bank accounts of all the Fifa Execs. Filled with Drug money and Oil money. Sweet. Cause there aren't a million better places to have these events.
if we did pull back i fear we might forget those on the most forgotten continent. what instead we need to do is lasso one of perus' 'A' quality point breaks and toss it into the mix so as to include nuestra amigos sud americanos. theres' a beaut (herradura) in town in lima…la tercera section…nice. nuestra amigos brasileños/peruanos/chilenos/argentenos
So are they rioting against the police or against the drug gangs that have infiltrated their towns? I always find it amusing that gangs can kill thousands of people and each other a year, yet one cop beats someone up or has to shoot someone and everyone riots. Let them burn down their own houses I say.
Bro, you need to wake up and smell the American totalitarianism or visit detroit or camden. check out http://photographyisnotacrime.com/ to see our LEO's commit heinous human rights abuses and I am assuming by shot you mean should?
Yeah, but this is an unfortunate situation, driven by politics and money. They keep referring to the "slums" of Rio, as if there aren't slums spread through every nook and cranny of the city. This wasn't a cop shooting someone, this is the police and military having an all out war in a poor community because the world cup is coming in three weeks. I mean, it is unfortunate that you just roll up into the slums and start letting off automatic rounds. I mean, where were the cops 4-5 years ago when these drug lords took over. So, this is what I imagine happened. About 5 years ago, the local authorities, who are getting an in flux of billions of dollars probably had a sit down with the leaders of all the drug cartels up in the foothills. They said look, for about 2 months prior to, until everyone is gone, we are going to need you and your guys to stay out of town. We will pay for it. Since you are more powerful than the polic and military, we will pay you X millions of dollars, to kindly, politely keep your presence out of the city until the games are over. We won't bust you. We won't harrass you. Shoot, we will even pay you. Do it for nationalism. Do it for soccer. Do it for Brasil. And this week, some back alley little group didn't follow the direct orders to vacate town, so they had to move and and get them out. Assuming it wasn't even a large cartel factor, just some local yahoos that thought they could capitalize on the situation... Like I said, its a shame that the leaders in Rio can clean house when the World Cup is coming and spruce up their city, but when there isn't money involved, they just let people kill, pillage and plunder and give the ol' mexican answer: They are stronger than we are... Well, maybe it's time you forfeit your nation to someone who can come in there and take care of business.
I lived in Baltimore for many year. Preston St at Guilford Ave... I know all about it... That is why we don't hold the world cup in West Baltimore... Not ALL of Brasil is bad. Rio is terrible.... I am just saying, if you can't clean up Rio, don't hold the games there. Have it in a more remote location... I mean, Baltimore can Barely clean up Park Heights for one weekend during Preakness, so I would NEVER recommend having a few hundred thousand people setup shop in NW Bmore for any period of time... No country is perfect, but the US does NOT look the other way on violence and drug trade. I mean, this country has crackheads doing 25-life for possession. Most gun laws keep people in jail forever over that stuff. ANd even in Baltimore, when a cartel surfaces, the cops man up, suit up and have a shoot out. Not just cause there is a circus in town.... We are a big country with big problems, but we try.... Rio makes detroit look like candy land. Our society does turn a blind eye to the projects etc. But ohh well. People in the inner city killing other people from the inner city over turf and crack. Raining machine gun bullets into a heavily populated city, burning people alive and killing thousands of innocent people who have nothing to do with the drug trade is a bit different. Generally speaking, if you aint looking for trouble in detroit, you wont find it. If you are walking through the projects at night, yeah you are going to have problems... Same with Baltimore. its very rare that you see guys in the inner harbor getting robbed and gunned down. If you get yourself in trouble in Baltimore, you are probably in the wrong part of town, for a VERY wrong reason...
You really have drank the Kool aid homey I dont know how to help you, enjoy your govmt, you earned it
I mean, you think that the nation as a whole doesn't do a pretty good job going after violent criminals and drugs? Our prisons are full of drug offenders and people who have committed gun crimes. I mean, the war on Pot even in the country is insane. throwing 18 years old in jail for possession. Giving kids 5 years for distro. I mean, are there really any "drug cartels" left in this country? Not to my knowledge. Yeah, there are dealers in every city to provide for the fiends. But there is really no one in the US that runs the drug game. Mexico runs it up to Chicago and its widely distributed and the Feds run all over the place trying to stop it. If there is one thing I will say out government puts a lot of effort into, its fighting the ridiculous drug war and throwing people win guns in jail for a long time...
