corporations exist for profit. if any of your friends thought money was the most important thing, and did ANYTHING to get it, you would likely label them a psychopath and stop hanging out with them

and Monstanto invented Agent Orange for Chrissakes!

They also invented many crossbreeds and processes that have helped feed millions. Not free, of course. ;)
They aren't all bad. Doing good for society is also profitable at times.

So you don't think they would sue you if their gmo seeds blew into your non-gmo fields?

    Brewman its pretty spot on.

Monsanto is the epitome of evil corporations. They not only have the round up ready, they have the "terminator" seed which is only used for one planting season. To ensure the farmers HAVE to go back to them and purchase another crop.

Monsanto may have their name on things that have done good for the people, but thats because they have a hand in most everything. Government, business, and agriculture.

I don't believe that is what he said. Further more, anyone can sue anyone for anything. That doesn't mean they are going to win. Corporations are rarely black and white evil or good. They all exist to make money, and they all bend the rules. Every person posting on here is probably a part of it. Try to step away from the popular opinion of the internet world. http://www.realclearscience.com/articles/2013/05/15/monsanto_more_saint_than_sinner_106533.html

More info from the people that are actually involved with agriculture:

How many people are going to die from the latest anti-vaxination movement? People are generally pretty ignorant to scientific research, and would rather follow the popular opinion. The older I get, more more skeptical I become.

They actually took a guy named Percy Schmeisser to court in Canada for that very same thing. It went all the way to the supreme court and he lost. But they are not trying to send a message or take over the market. Im sure they are really altruistic.

yea, brew and pump, anything that exists solely for profit would put you in the meat grinder if you they could, don't kid yourself

look at that mess that chevron has in Ecuador, dumping toxins in the rainforest, killing indigenous people, and not giving a f@ck

if they exist solely for profit, which they do, then if they control the food supply, then that will line their pockets and is in their best interest, and not ours

I too have become more skeptical, I don't believe the BS that the officials spew

that's pretty black and white. Most big companies have major charitable foundations.

a corpo who singularly seeks money having a charitable foundation is like a psychopath.......and most psychopaths try and project a different persona on the world so they can achieve their selfish goals via manipulation and lies

Corporations may not be evil, but they can certainly be sociopathic.

Imagine if instead of dealing with a corporation you were dealing with a person. And you knew this person cared about only one thing, turning a profit at all costs. Break any rule, use any dirty tactic, lie, cheat, steal, screw anyone over, without the slightest care in the world for any negative impact it has on any person or the environment. Would you choose to do business with this person if you didn't have to?

Now imagine if this person had the guvmint in their back pocket. Judges, cops, lawyers, inspectors, regulators, all either paid off or neutered to the point where they could do nothing to oppose this person even if they wanted to.

Pretty f'd up situation if you ask me.

Now add the "I was just doing my job" aspect. Executives at corp A...just doing their job, making money for the shareholders. Cascade that downstream...

That's how you get financial meltdowns and taxpayers on the hook for the bill, and not one single exec gets taken down for it. Remember Enron? Remember the S$L scandal before that?

Duke Energy dumped tons of toxic chems into the Dan River in NC. Our guvmint wanted to fine them $100k and no requirement to clean anything up. Duke energy pisses away 100k like I throw pennies in a jar. If the Southern Environmental Law Center hadn't threatened with a lawsuit they would have done it too.

I grew up near Deep River. Seaboard chemical was dumping tons of toxic wastes into the river. Everyone knew it. You could see the nasty stuff coming out of the pipes. The river would foam up like a dishwasher whe it rained. Don't swim in the river, don't eat anything out of the river. When the guvmint finally tried to do something about it (only after lawsuits were brought by private citizens) they just closed shop and left. IIRC it was declared a "Superfund" site. (Remember those?) So once again taxpayers got the bill. The neighborhoods near the site have extremely high rates of tumors from the seepage into the water table and I know several people that have died. Yet nothing was done because they just packed up and left and walked away and there's no method to sue or prosecute.

Over and over and over again these institutions run rampant then if they get busted none of the people who profited suffer any repercussions. Slap on the wrist at most. The guy working the line or the bank teller loses his job due to budget cuts, but the guys making 1000x their salary walk away. They, the taxpayer who just lost his job, are still on the hook to pay for cleaning up the mess though.

Now I ask you, if a person behaved in the manner of these corps, wouldn't you want to just string them up by their necks?

It may not be "evil", but IMHO it's very, very f'd up.

The US is an oligarchy run by sociopathic corporations, and they are getting stronger every day. This will not end well.

    EXACTLY Tlokein

in Frank Herbert's Dune, in the far future, democracy collapsed because of the the size of the bureaucracy, and feudalism was the way, seems like we are on the way to something similar...take OCNJ for instance, the primary landowner and business owner, Gillian is the MAYOR. Commerce and gvt together= fascism, when its generational its feudalism.
