Anyone ever try this? Heres a video I found of some guy making a log out of home depot foam and I have plenty of it. Well, probably enough for a small shortboard.

I tried this and found it a royal pain in the azz. So much easier to shape a real blank, and the results are much more satisfying. Even using boat epoxy etc it would work much better on a legit blank with the rocker already set. That was one of the hardest parts, getting the rocker to stay and the glue to set. I remember leaving it for a week and taking the weights off that were bending the rocker and the whole thing popped back open and the glue was still wet.

How much are the blanks if you order them from US blanks or like polar whatever. Also, where can you get glassing and resin by the bulk?

Well that's always the issue, getting the supplies. I have used foamez online for resin, fins, fin boxes, glass etc. Not the cheapest but ease of ordering sold me. I've never ordered blanks and had them shipped. Always got them from friends or surf shop shapers. Check around there might be place closer than you think that has board making supplies.

Polyester blanks run about $75 for a blank under 7 feet and I agree with Zippy...using a surfboard blank is a lot more likely to work out for you.

A gallon of polyester resin (will be enough for two boards) runs about $40, fiberglass to glass a board about $20.

www.fiberglasssupply.com is a great resource to see whats out there. they sell EVERYTHING.
