Ill be perfectly honest I never thought I was lucky to live in NJ. I always used to wish I "lived somewhere else with waves". Then about 6 years ago I started to surf year round and especially after this last winter season I feel blessed to live in NJ. Its not California or Hawaii but after those two states I said its the 3rd best state for waves overall. 35 degree water is nothing anymore I finally have gotten used to wearing 6/5 and doing the cold water thing and I actually enjoy it, especial because the waves are so good and no one is around. The only thing is I wish the overall quality of the waves was better. I know its all about what spot you go to on certain swells but I feel NJ waves are weaker than everywhere else for some reason. A 3 foot day in California feels a lot more powerful than a 3ft day in NJ.

Pacific has more juice... Not 3rd best state. Every state on west coast and NC come first. Then you can argue.

sept or oct are the best bets to score waves...for those who survive the evening.

I've never surfed them, so correct me if my suggestions are absurd, but what about Oregon, Maine, and Fla? Oregon gets the Pacific groundswell, Maine has the most varied coastline on the EC, and Fla (supposedly) has some super-consistent, albeit mushy, waves...

CA, oregon, washington, NC, FL/NJ/Delmarva tied in that order.

And Florida ain't always mushy. That's like the west coast credit saying that the ec is always flat. Florida gets plenty of juice.

That's like people who visit the west coast in June and call it mushy

    agreed,

    HI
    CA
    Oregon

    Washington?

RI and NJ might be tied?

FL is def after those, FL is where I want to surf when Im 80 and I have no game left, select spots tube here and there, but overall 99% of the state is a beginner wave

GA and SC tied for last

I am from NJ and its true, 99% of the people who live here suffer from 'Big Fish in a Little pond' syndrome. Hate the humans, love the Ocean.

As far as ranking NJ... Its the best spot for me because its the only spot I can walk to from my front door haha.

If you really want to experience the pines this is the way to do it:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batona_Trail

50 miles of relatively flat terrain. You can do it in 2 days if you're not fooling around and 3 if you want to take your time. You'll finish up about a 20-25 minute ride to the nearest breaks (either north to LBI or south to AC). No jersey devils, but plenty of snakes and coons, and if you catch a tree frog you might just get altered...

i figure mushy is an automatic DQ for a "best of" list. never surfed oregon, but i've heard it does get good, so i suppose you've got a point there...ditto for maine, but "varied" doesn't necessarily mean "good" or "great" surf. the thing that makes nj & nc so good is how wide open the swell window is. i could be wrong, but maine seems kind of limited, ditto w/ ri.

I almost missed the Pine Barrens trip and any other trip for that matter. Last night I took a ride on the road rash highway, thank to a BMW SUV driving C$nt who pulled out in front of me in Mullica Hill. Bike and I got bounced but neither of us received any bad structural damage. The b!tch stopped which was smart from a legal standpoint but not so smart for her personal safety after I came to. I was able to slide around her but i had to ditch when I over-compensated. When I got up, I was woozy but ready to kill the transgressor. She got in her car and locked the door. I was trying to figure out how to light her car on fire, when two of Harrison Township's finest showed up.
Of course I got cited 25 bucks for operating a Motorcycle without a helmet. I almost ended up back in the clink and/or dead. Makes you think, 'God, I could spend a night in the Pine Barrens whacked out of my gourd right now."

U R misreading. I was coming home from working in PA. Both my jobs are in PA. That is why I am moving there shortly. My point was I almost died and almost took the idiot who cut me off with me. As a joke, I explained that I was upset that i might miss the 1st annual SI Pine Barrens adventure. I was in Harrison Township on the outskirts of Mullica Hill when the pig sl@t, hoar pulled in front of me. Anything else you want to know oh grand inquisitor?

Thanks Seldom. Every time something like this happens, I have to hear it from the wife about "retiring" the bike. I just tell her I'd retire her before I retire my bike or my boards.
