I just checked my boards through to El Salvador and it only cost me 45 bucks so round trip that's ninety and I get two boards some airlines screw u though. I don't ever see it catching on in non first world countries because if a kid in Nicaragua has a board it's his only board and he is not going to rent it out. In te states it could catch on. Also I think mainly it will be **** board to rent I actually have a boat I split in half on there for rent I only is to kitesurf with its worth 50 bucks so ill take 20 to rent it to a tard for a day QUOTE=Dopio;236909]would be nice if it got going. always complained there wasn't really a way to try a board out before making a big investment in one. dont know willing people would be to put newer boards on there, but looks like there are some decent ones on there so maybe. also would be nice if it took off in puerto rico/central america for trips to not have pay airlines.[/QUOTE]
Yeah, or some wahine schedules the pickup of her SUP from her home address and they never find her. Or some guy from Florida just starts making rental purchases, showing up at homes in a white van. The last thing these poor young boys see is a bible in their face right before they get struck with a frying pan and the pillow case goes over their head. Next thing you know, some creep is dragging you across the front lawn, stuffing you in the back of his van. Does a quick look over each shoulder and then drives off... Witnesses didn't get the plate #s, but they did identify a "Jesus" sticker on the back.
Wow, you've emassed quite the quiver in a short time I remember when you first started with your verbose posts buddy. Don't recall an Emass "Hello" but there have been so many posts it may have slipped the mind. I try to ride all of my boards. Some get more love than others of course. Although I like the idea of finding a board to use on a site like that, I'd have a hard time handing them over to a stranger. Some exorbitant ding fees would ease the mind though, and probably ensure that the rental party is a bit more cautious.
NVM Emass, I remember your hello now. How could I forget the drubbing your friend got?! Careful Zach you may give some people ideas. Very funny.
My first thought was exactly that Zach, crazy people showing up at people's houses. Honestly it's not a bad idea on paper but I don't see it becoming useful to anyone whos not a kook, meaning boards will get destroyed. Then figuring out who pays for it. It's just too much If someone is looking for a new board and wants to try diffrent stuff out, thats the only situation I see it being useful. It would be a good idea to set it up in a way that everyone who uses the site has a profile where other members can rate that user. Some kook has a habit of renting boards and returning them dinged up, you'll know about it and know not to rent to that guy based on reviews and ratings. Make it mandatory, if you rent a board from/to someone you have to fill out a quick review. I think that could make it worth while.
Yeah, I guess we should all just monitor the site and see how the growth is. As far as the kook stuff goes, for some reason, I see this site being the opposite. I don't see a "kook" or someone who doesn't even know how to surf putting in the time to look around online, find a website like this and go through all the hassle of using it. Especially when you can rent a foam top for 20 bucks right at the beach you are going to... I see this site MAYBE having a niche for real surfers. I think the value of the site is to make sure they have credit card info on file and they can charge someone if they never return your board and stuff. Its worth the markup for the security in that. But really, I see this as a site for business traveling surfers, or just surfers in general. I mean, I have a pickup truck and stuff, but next time I go up to Deleware to see my dad, I am going to bring a couple boards to just leave there. Cause even if you aren't flying, lugging surfboards up and down the 95 isn't much fun either.... So point being, if I was up in OC MD/DE area, and my fish at my dads house wouldnt work that day, I would probably shell out 20-30$ for a days use of a solid longboard. I can just see a million uses for this kind of thing. And more importantly, surf shops should get in on this. Just put their whole "rentable" or used board selection up online. Free traffic. Increase business. But for real, how many threads have we all seen on here about where to rent a board?
Eight, but waiting on the arrival of a freshie. Went through a period where I said I'd never sell another board, but that went out the window a while back. I don't think twelve is crazy, but it's impressive for a short time period. I bet the site will do pretty well. I'd be most likely to use it when flights are involved.
Yeah - this is the way VRBO and AirBNB work. I probably wouldnt 'rent out' a board to someone I didn't know, but then again, I probably wouldn't let someone stay in place that I didn't know, but I do that because of the feedback on both those sites. I would be happy to see this thing work out though if only to stop the 'where can i find a short board in X place' question that seems to never stopped being asked.
Bro, I got an even worse drubbing coming to assist him. I'd not be bringing anyone green out in that now with what I know of reports and conditions. Honestly though, I had little way of knowing that back then given the day's weather which was seemingly seasonable. That wind though bro, and that jetty... I guess that was my Hello tread even though I'd been on here a couple weeks prior. Good comparison brah and it definitely had Hello tread caliber in all ways aside from going off in a million tangents like the one we refer to. A few braddahs sided with me but it was basically me vs. the world and stayed that way through the tread given my endurance for a fight.
I posted some boards on this website. Somebody rented one of my paddle boards (which i only really use to paddle around on flat days) and I made 120 buck for 3 days for nothing. Not sure if the original poster was plugging or not, but if he was... good on ya, bra. Feels like free money.
it's obviously a marketing effort.. but that doesn't mean its bad. It's pertinent. I love the guys business model. When I found the site a month or so ago I had the "why didn't I think of that" moment. It solves quite a few problems for anyone that surfs. He has some competition popping up though, so it will be interesting to see who actually becomes the "go to" for this service. I assume it will be who ever gains the most awareness the fastest. I don't think forum posts are what's going to get him there though. There are much better ways to grow a user base.
great idea. hope it catches on since it looks like Montauk is pretty much the only place with listings now. Lets get some South Jerz folks in there since i would love to try some new shapes and the rental options are crap
